Elk Mountain Road Dispersed — Bears Ears NM

Along Elk Mountain Road (CR 228 / FR 088) at roughly 7,350 feet in the Bears Ears National Monument backcountry, this switchback pullout offers sweeping canyon views stretching toward Natural Bridges National Monument and Valley of the Gods. Three established spots cluster around the hairpin turn, with partial tree cover and a fire ring already in place — vans and compact rigs fit comfortably, but the road and site geometry rule out larger trailers. Winds can be brisk, especially from the west and southwest, and the graded dirt approach warrants caution after snow or rain; no cell service is available.
