Adults-only Wild Duck Campground sits along Scarborough Marsh, where tall trees form a canopy over closely spaced sites. The small facility accommodates both RVs up to 50 feet and tent campers, with full hookups available at premium sites facing the marsh. Most sites cluster together with limited buffers between neighbors, though the marsh-facing locations offer grass areas and open views across the wetlands.
The campground maintains a notably quiet atmosphere where bird calls and rustling leaves dominate the soundscape. Heather C. notes "the trees are quite tall and create a lovely canopy overhead," while minimal road noise from nearby Route 9 occasionally filters through. Mosquitoes can be intense during summer months, particularly near the marsh areas. The bathhouse consistently receives praise for cleanliness across multiple seasons.
Site 30 provides sunrise and sunset views over the marsh, where egrets hunt in tidal pools at dusk. A small camp store sells firewood on-site. The Eastern Trail runs 1.3 miles away, offering gravel paths for walking and biking. The nearby Audubon Center provides kayak rentals and safer water access than launching directly from the campground, where a dangerous culvert under Route 9 creates hazardous paddling conditions.
Access roads can be rough, and the facility operates seasonally from early May through mid-October. Marc D. found the location "20 minutes drive to Portland" with "several good restaurants" nearby. For additional camping options in the region, campers can explore campgrounds around Saco. Reserve ahead during peak summer months when the limited number of sites fills quickly.
