Breathtaking Views, peaceful setting
We love this campground and usually come at least once a year. Sites 7, 8, 9 are our favorites, and while they don't offer a ton of privacy or shade, the views and access to the cliff edge are unbeatable. There is a hiking trail that runs right along side site 9, so there can be some foot traffic close to your site, but it's not bad at all.
The bathrooms are usually very clean. We usually go before Memorial day or after Labor day so we haven't been there when a host has been there, but they do send people through to check sties, clean bathrooms and such and they are always super friendly.
There are sheep and deer that come through the campsite. As well as chipmunks and falcons to watch. You can follow the trail head to the visitors center or the other way to Greens Lake.
a favorite
While Flaming Gorge doesn’t have the glamour of its relatively close neighbors it makes a marvelously and interesting stopover on the way to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. The campground is clean, well maintained and managed and the sites are well spaced. In June 2022, there were many unreserved, FF sites. One of my favorite sites of all time.
Great View
Right on the edge, there are 3 tenting sites within 50 ft of the side of the cliff, 8,9, and 10. Definitely the best spots. Otherwise there are several spots scattered around the area just not with a great view. Each site has picnic table and a fire pit with bathrooms in walking distance.

Newer of the three red canyon CGs
Newer of the three campgrounds on the Red Canyon road. This CG is better suited to groups and larger RVs and TTs. Roads and vault toilets are in better shape. Water spigots, trash dumpsters. $22 nite/$11 senior. Good cell service on all carriers. 18 sites and 4-,8-11 are FF.

Peaceful campground among the Pine trees
We just got back from a weekend RV camping at Canyon Rim campground in Flaming Gorge UT. We absolutely LOVED it! Quite, peaceful, well maintained, new fire pits, very clean toilets. A herd of big horn sheep just meander through the site super close but they are non threatening, seem to be used to people, not bothered at all. It was so cool! Sites are well spaced and there are a few that are set back (#10) which is a GEM if you don't want to be near anyone. The Canyon rim trail runs through the CS, just jump on and its about 1 mile to the Red Canyon Visitor Center. It was closed but still gorgeous views. We had an extremely windy day and spent most of the day in the RV, kids wandered around the campsite looking for "cool rocks" which there are ALOT of! I'm guessing it gets quite windy in most areas of Flaming Gorge in general. We'd go back for sure! Temperature was really comfortable between 45 at night and 75/80 during the day.
A fun backpack in to the Canyon Rim Campground, Flaming Gorge, UT.
We did a small backpacking trip from the Greendale Overlook on highway 40 to the Canyon Rim campground for the night. The hike was beautiful, crossing creeks and surrounded by ponderosa pines. It's about 4.5 miles one way.
Canyon Rim Campground is beautiful, also surrounded by ponderosa and aspen, and with a beautiful overlook of Flaming Gorge Reservoir. There are specific sites for tent camping, and plenty of RV spots. Each spot has tables and fire rings. There are vault toilets.
Our only complaint is that all of the water to the campground was shut off! No signs warning that there was no water available. This was actually awful as we had backpacked in with our dogs (who at this point were very thirsty), and brought dehydrated food that required water to make. Luckily, Red Canyon Lodge is located about a mile away. We were able to hike over and buy water. 16 small bottles of water for like 45 dollars...not ideal.
