Four miles southeast of Fritch, this dispersed camping area sits within Lake Meredith National Recreation Area on open grassland that resembles pasture more than traditional wilderness. The National Park Service manages this first-come, first-served site at no charge, though pets are not permitted.
Access requires navigating a dirt road section that could prove challenging during wet weather, and vehicles with higher clearance fare better on the approach. The area provides a single pit toilet, trash collection, and one rock fire ring, but no drinking water or shade trees. The exposed setting makes it well-suited for solar panel use. Campers should bring adequate water supplies and prepare for an open environment with abundant cactus.
Description
This remote and primitive area is located near Blue West. It is tucked in the Blue Creek embankment, which provides protection from prevailing winds. There is no drinking water or flush toilets; vault-evaporator only. There are picnic tables available.
