Two distinct camping areas spread across Keystone State Park's 1,200 acres, each offering different experiences near the 78-acre lake. The Hillside Loop sits tucked into wooded terrain away from the main park traffic, while the Lakeside Loop provides direct water access but draws heavier crowds during peak season.
Campers consistently note the contrast between these areas. "Love this side of Hillside - quiet and shaded," observes Joan B., highlighting the wooded loop's appeal for those seeking more privacy. The Hillside area features sites that reviewers describe as secluded, with site 43 noted for being both private and relatively flat terrain suitable for larger RVs. Meanwhile, the Lakeside Loop places campers within walking distance of the designated swimming beach and boat launch, though summer weekends bring substantial crowds to this section.
The park's lake anchors most recreational activities, from fishing for bass and panfish to swimming at the designated beach area with its adjacent playground. Multiple hiking and biking trails wind through different terrain types, while winter visitors can access cross-country skiing when conditions allow. A small camp store stocks basic supplies, and the visitor center housed in a stone and wood building provides historical context about the region.
Full hookup sites accommodate RVs with electric, water, and sewer connections, while primitive sites serve tent campers and those preferring simpler setups. The shower houses receive consistent praise for cleanliness, with the Hillside facility notably lacking the timed showers found at the Lakeside location. "Very clean park and shower house does not have the timed showers of Lakeside," confirms Joan B.. Reservations help secure preferred sites during the April through October season, particularly for lakefront locations.
For additional camping choices in the area, Millers Campground operates nearby for those wanting a different setting.

For reservations after Labor Day 2026-Keystone Lake at Keystone State Park is to be drawn down after Labor Day of 2026 through mid-October of 2027. The lake is to be drawn down for dredging work at the headend of the lake. The swimming area will be closed for the 2027 season. Although fishing and boating will still be permitted, we will encourage caution if one pursues these activities as the exposed silt lake bed could pose a significant hazard to navigate. All recreation trails, campground and cabins will remain open. Please contact the park office at 724.668.2939 for any additional questions.
