Tent camping near Glen Campbell, Pennsylvania spans primitive dispersed sites and campgrounds with amenities, set among Allegheny forests and creek valleys. Loleta Road Dispersed Campsite offers primitive tent camping in the Allegheny National Forest region, while Mountain View Camps provides tent sites with more amenities. Long Acres on Clover Creek represents another tent-friendly campground within driving distance of Glen Campbell.

Most primitive tent sites in the area feature natural, ungraded surfaces with minimal development. Loleta Road Dispersed Campsite provides drive-in and walk-in access with several spots along the forest road. Campers should bring all necessary supplies as these dispersed sites lack drinking water, toilets, and trash service. Fires are permitted at most locations, but no firewood is provided. A visitor commented that Loleta Road sites are "close enough to the road to feel safe but far enough away to have privacy," though some reviews note sites can become muddy during wet seasons.

Tent campers in the Glen Campbell area appreciate the secluded nature of many sites. Areas farther from roads offer deeper forest immersion and quieter camping experiences. According to one visitor, Long Acres on Clover Creek provides "a great escape from reality" with creek access and excellent stargazing opportunities. Many tent sites feature natural screening from neighboring campers when foliage is full. Most primitive tent camping areas have minimal light pollution, allowing for exceptional night sky viewing. Seasonal considerations include tall grass in summer months and increased mud in early spring. Tent campsites throughout the region serve as good baselines for hiking and fishing activities, with several tent-friendly locations positioned near state game lands and trail systems.

      Rustic Acres

This is our second time staying here. Each time in October. We love it. Unlike most RV resorts this place is small and wooded. Has free Wi-Fi, clean bathrooms and an awesome community hub room for work from home or playing games. The weekends are busy but during the week it’s so quiet and peaceful. Close to so many attractions and parks that are part of the PA Wilds. Would definitely recommend.

      Lake Raystown Resort and Lodge

      Enormous property, but...

We spent a long weekend for walks in the woods, seeing the fall colors, and all around a huge lake.

      What We Liked:

      - Even though the sites are sloped, they’re huge. I like that a lot.

      - This property is enormous. They have a marina on the lake, a wedding facility, conference center, lots of cabins which look pretty good, and tent sites in addition to the RV sites. Go say hi to the goats behind the store. The property is amazing!

      - If you’re interested, it’s a 90-minute drive to the Flight 93 Memorial— well worth the trip!

      Things to Keep in Mind:

      - The roads getting there are like a roller coaster. This isn’t the resort’s fault, but something you need to know if you’re going there.

      - The sites are sloped. Took several blocks to get even close to level. I may be spoiled, but I really appreciate a level site.

      - No sewer connection. There’s a dump station available, but just know the sites are water and electric only.

      Would We Return?

      - Probably not. It’s not fun driving in that area and there’s nothing much to do in the area.

Crooked Run Campground — Prince Gallitzin State Park

Very large CG. I car camped at site 066 (with electric) in mid-October and CG was 3/4 empty. Nice location on Glendale Lake with a beach and boat activities (for warmer months). Showers had no hot water but facilities were nice. Very little separation between sites. Nearby hunters discharging guns into evening hours.

      Keystone State Park Campground

      Decent place

Stayed the weekend for the first time and it wasn’t bad! There were kids playing at sites nearby but that was all the noise, highway noise at all! I like how they have a spot for your tent with a picnic table and fire ring. I was in my rooftop tent on my truck so I wish the parking spot went back a little deeper for a little more privacy. But it was nice that there was bathrooms and showers within a 1 minute walk from the site! Also it says on here there is no AT&T signal, that’s not true…it’s not great but there is a bar or 2 at times!

      Lazy Acres Campground

      DO NOT BRING KIDS HERE

Advertised as a family camp but very far from it. I’ve watched this camp progressively get worse as the years go on, over priced camp with zero efforts to make anything worthwhile, run down play grounds, broken toilet paper roll holders in the bathrooms of the shower house, roads that make you feel like your off road. Owner plans “events” and then wants campers to pay for overpriced food. The owner complains nobody comes to events anymore but barely comes to them herself. The owner is VERY money hungry! And most importantly it’s home to a sex offender who the owner cherishes dearly.

It’s a shame to see how many people realized how terrible this camp was and are selling their camps because of it. The owner should open her eyes and realize she’s the reason people don’t want to be there anymore !!!

    Guide to Glen Campbell

Dispersed camping sites near Glen Campbell, Pennsylvania offer primitive tent camping experiences throughout the forested Allegheny region. The terrain features mixed hardwood forest with elevations ranging from 1,200 to 2,000 feet. Winter conditions often limit accessibility, with snow accumulation common from November through March, while summer temperatures typically range from 60-85°F with moderate humidity.

    What to do

Fishing at multiple streams: Anglers camping at Wilson Hollow Boondock can access several nearby waterways for fishing. The location provides a convenient base for reaching both small streams and larger water bodies within a 20-minute drive.

Explore game land trails: Mountain View Camps serves as an excellent starting point for hiking and wildlife observation. According to a visitor, you can "explore the ruins on the game lands, and might even see an albino fawn" while hiking the surrounding trail systems.

Stargazing on clear nights: The limited light pollution around many tent sites creates exceptional night sky viewing opportunities. At Long Acres on Clover Creek, campers note "the stars are so bright out here," making astronomy activities popular during cloudless evenings.

    What campers like

Privacy between sites: At Loleta Road Dispersed Campsite, visitors appreciate the natural separation between camping spots. One camper states, "I pulled off about a half mile past the noted google maps pinpoint. Great time for the dogs and I," highlighting the freedom to find secluded areas.

Creek access: Multiple sites offer water features that enhance the camping experience. One camper at Nancy's Boat To Shore Campground shares: "This campground is accessed by boat only. But it has a maintenance road and is patrolled by college kids with summer jobs. Follow the rules and you will have a wonderful time."

Proximity to outdoor activities: The placement of campgrounds provides convenient access to recreational opportunities. A visitor to Mountain View Camps notes it offers a "Great place to stay close to hiking trails and fishing spots" with opportunities to "Hit the mountain bike track" in the surrounding area.

    What you should know

Weather effects on sites: Seasonal conditions significantly impact camping experiences in the area. A camper at Loleta Road Dispersed Campsite cautions: "We stayed here in March, so there weren't leaves back on the trees yet which meant we could see the road (and the road could see us). Not bad on the main track in and out but swampy everywhere else."

Road noise at some locations: Several primitive camping areas sit within earshot of roads. One camper at Loleta Road Dispersed notes: "This is my first time dispersed camping and the spot is nice for a first go. Was able to drive in which I why I chose this area... the only real downside is the road near by, but the traffic is at a minimum."

Reservation requirements vary: Some tent campsites near Glen Campbell require advance booking while others operate on a first-come basis. Reservation policies and fees differ between established campgrounds and dispersed sites.

    Tips for camping with families

Look for shallow water features: Locations with gentle water access provide safer recreation for children. One family noted Nancy's Boat To Shore Campground has designated swimming areas appropriate for different ages and swimming abilities.

Pack for changing weather: Spring and fall camping requires preparation for temperature fluctuations. A camper at Loleta Road Dispersed Campsite encountered unexpected conditions: "We spent the night during a tropical storm and got the pleasure of hearing the rain on the tent out in this peaceful spot!"

Consider vehicle access needs: When camping with children, evaluate site proximity to parking. A camper at Loleta Road Dispersed Campsite reported, "I stayed a lot deeper in the woods than this road but all the roads in the forest are drivable gravel with many pull of spots for camping!" This flexibility helps families choose appropriate camping distances based on gear and child ages.

    Tips from RVers

Limited hookup availability: Most primitive tent campsites near Glen Campbell, Pennsylvania lack RV infrastructure. Small trailers can access some sites, but larger rigs require established campgrounds outside the immediate area.

Road surface considerations: Forest service roads leading to dispersed sites may challenge some vehicles. One camper mentions: "Living in a van looking for spots to stay this wasn't a bad one at all, good bit off the road, couple trails."

Campsite size limitations: Many tent sites cannot accommodate larger vehicles. When bringing camper vans or small trailers, scout locations in advance to ensure sufficient turning radius and level parking options.
