Canyon Country Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon draws campers to the Wellsboro area each season, and Canyon Country Campground sits close enough to the rim that a hiking trail connects the sites directly to the gorge. The campground runs from mid-April through October, with full hookups available for RVs up to 50 feet, along with electric, water, and sewer connections, a dump station, WiFi, and shower facilities. Leonard Harrison State Park Campground is less than a mile to the northwest, and Colton Point State Park Campground sits about a mile and a half to the west, so campers who want a different setup have options close by.

The campground's proximity to the canyon is its clearest draw. Campers have biked the river trail, hiked into the state park, and walked to a fire tower that charges $5 per person, credit card only. Staff consistently receive positive feedback for their helpfulness with trail recommendations and canyon logistics. The grounds are kept clean, and the atmosphere tends toward a family-oriented crowd. Sites are not especially level or private, which is worth knowing before booking.

One safety note from a recent visitor: some trees on or near the sites carry dead limbs, and at least one camper reported a large branch falling close to where they had been resting. It is worth scanning your site's canopy on arrival, particularly if you plan to hang a hammock.

Sheilah C. describes the campground as "neat, clean and quiet," with owners who gave detailed guidance on where to go in the canyon. Pets are welcome, reservations are available, and the town of Wellsboro is a short drive away for resupply. Campers who want to base themselves near the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon and value staff support will find this a workable home camp for a few nights.

Zero response

Would like to stay at this campground, but these folks do not respond to reservation requests or vmail requests per their website instruction. Have lost all interest - horrible

Not bad

This place was pretty decent. My only complaint was that the trees around our site were dead or at least had a lot of deadfall in them. I was laying in my hammock and the wind picked up so I sat up to observe if anything took off from our site and as soon as I sat up a big dead branch fell out of the tree and struck where my head had been. Needless to say I was very lucky! Other then that it was a great spot you could hike from the campground out to the Turkey trail or go check out the fire tower (It’s $5 per person and credit card only). The whole area is beautiful.

small, quiet and friendly

Our trip to Canyon Country Campground was fantastic!  The owners were very friendly and helpful.  Our site was well laid out.  The campground was neat, clean and quiet.  The owners were extremely helpful concerning the Pa. Grand Canyon, where to go, the trails, etc.  It is a 5 hour drive for us but we are already booked again for this June.

Wonderful campground

Stayed there the August 2-4. Great little campground. Very friendly staff. Minutes away from a town and the gorge. Hiking trail from the campground to the gorge! Highly recommended!!

Very nice campground

Sites are not very level nor private, but the staff is great and the grounds are walking distance to the canyon. Met some great fellow campers here, biked the river trail, and hiked the state park. Have camped there twice and plan to return.
