Gorgeous island and campground. This is by far a destination of choice. Waterfront sites, hiking trails, wildlife, boating and biking. The sites are spacious and so well maintained. The park is pristine. Will go again and again.

You really camp “on top of each other” here. They squeeze in as many units as possible so it really doesn’t feel like camping. We found it noisy, dusty and rather unpleasant. We arrived about 15 minutes prior to check-in, but even though the site was empty and ready, we were kept out on the street until the exact minute of check-in, along with quite a few others. This is a rather ridiculous practice that makes check-in a long process. The park rents bikes for touring the island, which is a must, but it’s best to bring your own bikes. We rented 2 and they were wrecks; rusty, squeaky, brakes only worked part of the time. I had to return mine twice; the first couldn’t adjust the seat height as it was rusted solid, the second had the handlebars off-set, making steering very difficult, and again it was rusted and couldn’t be moved. Biking the island is a great experience. The historic areas are great, the beach trails are beautiful. Plan on a full day to see it all.

Hibernia is the lesser know campground on Kerr Lake since it is located more off the popular travel route. There are only a few sites with hookups. Most sites are tent and dry camping. Whether you have water frontage or woods, the sites are large and private. Our waterfront site had its own little beach where we could swim and launch our kayak. When we camped in the woods, the other campers were well spaced. The park staff dropped by every few days just to visit and share information. It was so peaceful. Lots of hiking and biking too. Great place for families since there is so much to do.

Though quite urban, this is one of my favorite stops in touring Florida on the Atlantic side. The resort is beautiful, sites are paved and level. There is a pool, hot tub, laundry, tennis, bocce, playgrounds, and it’s walking distance to the pier, the beach, a large grocery store and drug store, restaurants and more. There are many park models here and the park residents are friendly and welcoming.

Sites are not very level nor private, but the staff is great and the grounds are walking distance to the canyon. Met some great fellow campers here, biked the river trail, and hiked the state park. Have camped there twice and plan to return.

The site were so private with lots of vegetation between. We could not see other campers from our site. Beautiful hiking trails, sandy beaches, great kayaking. The added bonus of Shell Island made this quite an experience

This was one of the best places in the south I’ve camped. Sites were level, the park was beautiful, miles of biking/walking trails, a pool, close to the beach and pier. Full Hookups. Clean restrooms. Laundry. You could spend weeks here and not run out things to do.

Lovely place on a small lake. Staff was wonderful, the site was lovely with a great view of the lake. The lake was clean and we swam, kayaked and crossed the lake on paddle boards. The campground is small with limited sites, but I would gladly return.

So noisy we only stayed one night. No privacy. Tents parked a few feet apart. We had smokers on both sides and our camper was blue with their smoke. Heavy drinking and loud voices all afternoon and evening. Many had their car radios blaring, all on different stations. Outdoor bingo game was done on a loudspeaker that penetrated every inch of the grounds. Drunken campers were banging on our door after midnight thinking we were the camper they were looking for. Nightmare!

Very private sites, many offer water frontage. There is a bathhouse with 3 showers and many pit toilets throughout the campground. No hookups. Limited RV sites and very limited for over 20 feet. Miles of hiking and close to many beautiful places like Reversing Falls, Quoddy Lighthouse, and the Bay of Fundy.

The state park is backed up against Mt Megunticook with fabulous hiking and also frontage on The Penobscot Bay. You get the best of both. The park is very clean, sites are not very level so plan on adjusting things. Two large bath houses with hot showers and flush toilets. We liked it so much after our first visit that we have been campground hosts here for 4 years.
