Forest Creek

Accessible via Forest Road 4885, this $12 US Forest Service campground operates from late May through October with just six sites and vault toilets. Forest Creek runs alongside the campground, providing water access though the creek stays extremely cold year-round. Sites offer plenty of shade and accommodate trailers easily, with the campground positioned along the historic Barlow Road section of the Oregon Trail.

The location serves as a base for hiking the Barlow Trail and exploring the White River area to the south. Campers can also access Boulder Point to the east for elevated views of the surrounding forest. For those wanting more amenities, Keeps Mill Campground sits less than two miles south with additional facilities.

Remote and secluded on White River (ice cold!) on Mount Hood

Not easy to find. Found driving around. Very inexpensive summer camp location. Very private, just 6 sites with vault toilets. Hike the Barlow Trail (part of the Oregon Trail). Located on Forest Creek. Just follow Forest Road 4885 south about 2.5 miles to the White River. To the east you can ride up to Boulder Point and get a look around; to the west you reach the White River. The campground itself is located on the historical Barlow Road (3530).

I do not recommend swimming in the river as it is extremely cold. plenty of shade and easy to back a trailer into the sites.

Although many pioneers passed by this site, few actually camped here. They did water their stock and themselves in the creek and possibly stopped here briefly on the last leg of their long journey to the fertile valleys west of the Cascades.
