Accessible via gravel roads within Ziolkouski Beach Park, Half Moon Bay Campground operates as a county-run facility designed primarily for ATV enthusiasts and dune riders. The campground charges $35-$55 per night and accepts reservations through Douglas County. Sites accommodate RVs up to 50 feet with pull-through options available, though no hookups are provided.
The atmosphere centers around off-highway vehicle activity, with direct access to Winchester Bay's extensive dune system. Dan M. notes this is "not a place for quiet camping" due to ATV noise that continues day and night during peak season. The campground features large group sites on pit-run gravel surfaces, making RV maneuvering straightforward without concerns about getting stuck in sand.
Basic amenities include restrooms, fire rings, and picnic tables, but no showers or electrical hookups. The location provides walking access to ocean beaches and the Umpqua River mouth for fishing and crabbing opportunities. Several reviewers mention views of the lighthouse from certain areas. Winchester Bay marina sits a short drive away for supplies and fresh oysters.
Campers should prepare for dry camping conditions and bring adequate water supplies. The facility works best for those specifically interested in dune recreation rather than traditional quiet camping experiences.
