Easy access but not a lot of privacy

We were lucky to snag the spot that looks over the painted hills so we had a gorgeous view! Be ready for potential wind. Lots of space and very easily accessible but make sure to fuel up before you go it’s a bit of a drive. Lots of RV’s when we went in early May but we were fine in our tent. Not a whole lot of privacy but you can walk down and get water to filter from the creek if you need. Lots of cow pies on the ground from the farmer who had cattle on the land so just be aware of that. It was a great spot for the night and on the same road as the painted hills.

Handy access for Painted Hills exploration

This is a very easy dispersed camping location if you’re going to the Painted Hills national monument area, where there is no camping. It’s a collection of open sites along a creek. Gets more use on weekends. Not well marked but you can see it to your left when you’re coming from 26. We ended up going down to Priest Hole on the John Day River, but that’s longer and steeper.

Excellent!

Great spot just outside the Painted Hills National Monument park. Easy to miss as there are no signs and it is an abrupt turn off.  Had the whole place to ourselves for one night. Fantastic star gazing and nice quiet spot after the day traffic along the main road visiting the park have left. Grassy area next to creek with some dispersed fire rings.
