Felt Picnic Area

Within Rita Blanca National Grassland, Felt Picnic Area operates as a free overnight camping spot managed by the US Forest Service. This dispersed campground sits on the edge of the small town of Felt, Oklahoma, accessible via paved roads that accommodate large RVs without difficulty.

The camping area consists of a flat, mowed parking lot surrounded by grassland and agricultural fields. Campers consistently report minimal road noise despite the proximity to highways, with the primary sounds coming from occasional farm equipment and distant cattle. Tyler W. found it a "very quiet spot to get some sleep for the night" with clear views under moonlit skies. The maintained grounds include several picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and clean vault toilets that receive regular attention.

The one-night limit makes this a popular stopover for travelers crossing the region. April S. calls it a "perfect pit stop for sleepy drivers on an adventure," noting good AT&T cell coverage and sunrise views across the open landscape. The flat terrain works well for tent camping, while the spacious lot provides room for multiple large rigs to maneuver and park.

Access requires a short drive off main highways via maintained gravel roads. The area can accommodate both drive-in and walk-in camping, with trash service provided and alcohol permitted. Some visitors report occasional crowding during peak travel periods, particularly late at night when other travelers seek the same convenient overnight option.

This campground serves travelers needing a clean, free overnight stop between destinations, offering basic amenities in a rural grassland setting without the restrictions of commercial RV parks.

Great Overnight

I originally planned on camping in Fritch, Texas but the wind guess were nearly 30 mph. So I decided to push on and make a pitstop to overnight camp here. It was a super clear night and a full moon so the views were great. Very quiet spot to get some sleep for the night. You’ll hear the occasional cow often in the distance. It’s also a short 10 minute drive off of the main road.

Felt Picnic Area

Great spot for a one night stay. Ground is flat making it easy for tent campers. Does have a bathroom area. Did hear farm equipment throughout the night but it wasn’t drowning the nightlife noise. Got the experience of deer bedding next to my site.

Easy to get to from a gravel road that is maintained. You’ll hear sounds from the mill nearby and an occasional cow, but other than that, it was a decent night.

Great little spot!

About 20 minutes from Clayton, this spot is easy to get to with my 23ft rig with paved road the whole way. Plenty of space to turn around and park multiple rigs. It was quiet and felt safe. There are picnic tables, a fire ring, and a pit toilet.

Quiet and level

Large parking lot that is very quiet and level. The pit toilets were clean and the trash and recycling were helpful. We pulled in around 7:30pm on a Friday and there was one other van there.

Perfect one night sleep

Good signal Att, bathrooms, easy to get to, beautiful sun rise spot, and quite.

At first I was a little sketched out because we got there at 3 am and it was pretty crowded but we were way to sleepy to keep going. The sun rise was amazing!!! Perfect pit stop for sleepy drivers on an adventure.

For the bad things. Well what some people might say is bad, it’s a bit off of the main road that we were going, seems close to houses, and has no running water.

his small spot is a great overnight if you are caught between campgrounds or reservations. Felt is a small stop over but the lot can accommodate several rigs of any size. We have used this location twice now and we will return. You may stay one night and you will find a pit toilet, trash containers, picnic table, grill, fire ring.

It is on the fringe of the small town of Felt, OK on the Rita Blanca National Grassland. You are surrounded by the grassland or farm land. Catch your breath and enjoy your stay. There is a small wooded picnic area that is nicely maintained, very clean and mowed. It is set off the main highway and we have had very little road noise.

Great Spot!

Wonderful little pull-off spot! Vault toilet, picnic tables, trash and recycling bins. Parking is a large gravel lot-limit is one night. Only one other vehicle when we were there. Little to no Verizon service depending on where you stand. 🤣
