Limited options for tent camping exist within a 30-mile radius of Georgetown, Ohio, primarily at small private campgrounds rather than established state or national facilities. Lizzy's Acres offers tent-only camping with both drive-in and walk-in access options, while GrayWolf PayLake provides basic tent campsites with drive-in access. Both locations are within reasonable driving distance from Georgetown and offer primitive camping experiences.
Most tent sites near Georgetown provide minimal amenities. GrayWolf PayLake offers drinking water, toilets, and picnic tables but prohibits campfires. Lizzy's Acres allows campfires and provides firewood for tent campers, but lacks restroom facilities or potable water sources. Campers should bring adequate water supplies and prepare for primitive conditions at most locations. Several locations in the data appear to be boat ramps rather than actual campgrounds, as confirmed by visitor reports.
Tent camping in the Georgetown area attracts those seeking quiet, less-developed experiences. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, Lizzy's Acres provides "wooded camping near state parks and a small town," making it a good basecamp for exploring nearby natural areas. Several listings in the region are either permanently closed or misclassified as campgrounds when they are actually just boat ramps or fishing access points. Tree Line Retreat in Kentucky, about 45 minutes from Georgetown, offers an alternative with drinking water and fire rings for tent campers. The region generally provides limited but serviceable options for primitive tent camping experiences within a reasonable drive from Georgetown.
"We took a group of Boy Scouts on a five day backpacking trek of the entire Shawnee Loop. It was a very challenging five days with a lot of up and down hills. The entire loop is around 36 miles."
"Right on the border of Kentucky, in Ohio, you are in the small town almost South. Beautiful countryside, fortunately I was on Rt 125 when I lost all clue where the park entrance was."
"Lizzy's Acres is a new listing on the Dyrt, but they offer a great location for those looking to explore the area. Check them out and show them some love!"

There are a lot of people here, but even during the day we hardly hear any loud noises coming from any of the other campers. Walking the property (as much as I can with my cane) everyone is so friendly. The grounds are kept very clean. The people from the office actually do garbage pick-up anytime during office hours! Just place your trash bag/ other items to be thrown away at the front of your site and they take it away. They even have recycling, but you have to take that up yourself. They won't just tell you where it is, they will show you. I haven't been to a KOA site in 15 years and the one I went to was not a great experience, but I highly recommend staying here if you're passing through Cincinnati.
This is a large campground with everything you need. Nice, clean, family friendly campground. Has many private sites backed up to trees. Shower houses has always been clean.
Always great time here. The upper part has more wooden areas then the lower part. But those spot are close to the lake. They a great playground. They have a big camp store with a putt putt, big lake we’re boating, fishing and kayaking. Multiple shower houses very clean kept up. Nice campground to ride bikes around.
Clean, well thought out and maintained. Level, full hook ups nearly new. This is s family campground that treats you like family and is doing everything possible to make you want to come back again. Forty sites, plus few cabins, first row ten cabins ohio riverfront. All sites level, gravel and easy for big rig/fifth wheel/Travel trailer. Even Adirondack chairs each site sitting high on the riverfront sites—thoughtful. Topped off with a bald eagle perched 25 yards in front or our site this morning. How much more peaceful can this get….
The team at this campground was incredible. From check in to check out they were considerate and caring. It was our first trip in our camper and the team made it feel like we were there so many times. Would 10/10 recommend
We made reservations to stay here for 3 nights and missed the first night due to damaging weather nearby, (tornadoes in Cincinnati.) On day two when we arrived we found the access driveway to be deeply creviced from washout conditions. We straddled the crevices on the uphill drive but we were unable to make the 90° narrow access to the site, spinning out in the wet grass on multiple tries.
The only option for exit is to back down the driveway, which in our MB Cruiser (8,000+ lbs) was challenging.
The host is extremely communicative and a pleasure to chat with pre-arrival and completely understanding of our dilemma. We chose not to stay the remaining nights.
Had the weather been favorable, access may have been much easier and is definitely passable for car, truck or small van camping. If your turning radius is long, reserve site #1 which may have been passable for us but we did not attempt because that is not what we had reserved, but the host later offered to us. Site #1 is the lower grassy flat with much wider access.
Check with host about condition of driveway and entry before reserving.
Kid friendly Good camp store A lot of big sites Good shower room Easy kayak lunching area from Campground. Great trails Easy biking
Always a family favorite. Smaller sites on upper area. Nice big area for big rv on lower level and by the lake. Nice shower rooms. Camp store. Nice playground and putt putt.

Proximity to local attractions: Tree Line Retreat positions campers approximately 45 minutes from Georgetown with access to both natural areas and local communities. The site provides drinking water and designated areas for campfires.
Basic amenities for tent camping: Tent sites typically include level ground for pitching tents and some offer basic amenities. Sonya M. noted about one formerly operating campground that now-closed facilities "should no longer be listed on the app," highlighting the importance of confirming availability before planning trips.
Many boat ramps misclassified as campgrounds: Several locations listed as campgrounds are actually just boat launches. Carl J. clarifies about Bullock Pen Lake: "This is just a boat ramp for a local fishing lake sitting near the local water department's pump station. There is no camping here at all."
