Sandy Springs Campground

Love this place! The owners are a family and they treat guests like an extension of family. We stayed at RV campsite 10 which was a river front site. It was full hook up which was convenient. The view of the Ohio river was really lovely. There was a boat launch very close by and we took our inflatable SUPs and put in at the boat launch which was nice and sandy. The owner gave us lots of good ideas of things to do. We ended up going on two nature hikes in preserves that are part of the Arc of Appalachia, one being literally across the road from Sandy Springs. We also drove down to Portsmouth to check out the flood murals at the suggestion of the owers which was pretty cool. I loved having a view of the river in one direction and a view of the Appalchian foothills in the other direction. This place is peaceful, quiet, and you can tell the owners are very thoughtful about infrastructure with the experience of their campers in mind. There's also small cabins to rent, including a houseboat!

This is our first time here, and we very impressed! Owners are wonderful, very accommodating. We arrived a day late, and they were so friendly and helpful! Even upgraded us to a site with a deck. Right on the river bank, everything is very clean. Will definitely make this a yearly trip!

We had a wonderful weekend stay at this campground; we were fortunate to get a river view site which was amazing. It is so peaceful to watch the river and see the occasional boat or barge go by. The campground is a very nice facility with unique cabins and nice full hook up sites. They have a nice store, restroom and shower facilities and they even have a small menu that they can prepare and bring to your site including a delicious chocolate chip cookie desert!

The owners are the real gem here; they are so friendly and accommodating and go out of their way to make you feel at home! We had a grandchild visit and we forgot a jacket and Julie(owner) went out of her way to find a hoodie out of her Halloween stock, so he would have something for the weekend. 

We will be back!

We spent about five months there this past winter. The campground is beautiful and the owners are amazing. The bathrooms and laundry room are very clean. The surrounding area seeps in history and we enjoyed exploring the area.

The owners, Julie and Darcy, are very friendly, kind and helpful people.

We just left and had a wonderful time! Campground is clean, seasonal campers are kind and the views are beautiful! We stayed in site 10 right on the river and the views were great. Lots of green area to play. Huge open field as well by playground. No activities yet this year as the season just started. Not sure if there is enough to do with kids for an entire week but we had fun for the weekend. We had a great hike at a trailhead directly across the street from the campground. Took us a little over 3 hours for the entire loop with a 4 year. He walked almost the entire way so it’s doable and the views are worth it. Overall wonderful campground, we will be back!

We stayed from Sunday until Tuesday and didn't want to leave! The campground offers something for everyone: playground equipment, basketball hoop and various balls, access to the river for fishing, and absolutely stunning views of the Ohio as well as the surrounding hills.

The campers were friendly. Nobody was loud and obnoxious. The owners Julie and Darcy are super nice and helpful.

The campsite is totally geared towards family fun! The owners are so hospitable, that you feel like family! One of the most fun places we’ve ever stayed! My kids were busy nonstop with planned fun activities! And they had things for the adults as well and a lot of things for everyone to do together!

We stayed in sites along the river. Wow, what a peaceful beautiful place. We will be back again and again

The view!!!!!! Backing your camper up to the view of the Ohio River is so calming. Watching the barges going up and down is never boring. The owners go out of their way to make sure that you are ok or if you need anything.

We arrived late and the hosts were so kind and communicative. We were met at the office and given a site right on the river. We had a peaceful night and awoke to fog on the river which was beautiful and quickly lifted. A sweet kitty visited with us during our walk down to the water and breakfast. Electric and water hookups were fine and the showers were great - individual rooms with toilet, sink and shower were roomy and had surfaces for resting your toiletries. We were just passing through so only stayed one night but I’d definitely go back. Highly recommend.

If you are looking for good old wholesome camping take advantage of Sandy Springs Campground any time of the year.

I found this jewel during the pandemic. I wanted to stay closer to home than usual for vacation. It was the cutest, most affordable, safe for solo female campers, clean, wonderful owners, tons of things to do, or just relaxing. I fell in love and have returned many, many times. I have stayed in all of the cabins and campers except SS Sandy Springs and Flair. I am familiar with this area and Shawnee State Forest, aka, The Little Smokies!

We found sandy springs took a chance and we LOVE IT. We have been with multiple family members. Twice. They all wanted to go back. The place is very clean. the owners are amazing. Very accommodating. Even though we have full hook ups we used the clean personal shower rooms. We dont like to keep our camper at one spot. We do like to roam. BUT I would here. Love Julie and Darcy. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this campground ....unless we need the spot. Lol

Sandy Springs is our RV home away from home.  From the beautiful views of the Ohio River, fishing, quiet out in nature, there is just not enough great words to describe this campground.

The owners Julie and Darcy are the best when making sure your stay is pleasant and we've made this our go to campground since 2018.

From the simple registration for RV/Tent spots as well as cabins, it doesn't get any easier to book a site.  Unlike some campgrounds, where the full-timers get all of the premium spots, it is the opposite at Sandy Springs, the river view spots are left open for the "weekenders".

Some weekends, there are special events going on, from bands to bouncy houses and there are also those weekends where nothing is going on, it you are looking for the slower pace camping.

You cannot go wrong camping here :)

We have camped in many places & this is definitely a 5 star 🌟 place. The spaces are so spacious & clean. The bathrooms & showers are so clean as well (Hardly see that anymore) The campground is relaxing & quiet 😁

The hosts & owners make you feel right at home & like family 💕 Beautiful views of the Ohio River & access to the water (beach) 🏖️ You can see the barges go by, watch the beautiful sky, & see the mountain range across the river. So much beauty to truly relax. Close to Cincinnati but far enough away to be in a peaceful relaxing place. You can tent, rent a cabin, or bring your own camper. Perfect for family camping 🏕️

Sandy Springs Campground is this awesome little gem on the Ohio River. It is a small family owned and family oriented Campground with some amazing views of the foothills of Ohio and Kentucky. The Campground is super clean and well maintained. They have full hookups and 30/50 Amp service. There are pull through sites and river front sites. They have several rental options and the coolest house boat over looking the river with a wrap around porch. They have really nice shower and laundry facilities. There is a pretty cool camp store there too. The best part is the friendly people and atmosphere. The owners work very hard here. They take very good care of the guests and there are always plenty of activities on the weekends and holidays. The prices are definitely affordable and can't be beat anywhere I have stayed before. Couldn't recommend a better place to stay on your next camping adventure.

We stayed at Sandy Springs last year for the first time. We stayed there again this year and have another trip scheduled for August. If you aren’t made to feel at home here, you’ll never will!! Julie, Darcy, and there son go over and above, all the time! Makes you feel like family.

Listening to barges and trains just have that sound that takes you back in time. You get to the point that you pick up that distant sound of a barge or a train on the Kentucky side.

It only took one visit to Sandy Springs for it to become a favorite of ours! The owners do a great job of keeping everything clean, running smoothly and still taking time to interact with their guests.

We camped at Sandy springs last year in 2022. Loved it. Owners were fantastic. They actually come around and check on you. They have put a lot of work into this place and it’s paying. Can’t wait to get there next month to see all the new additions. Shout out to Julie and her hard working family and staff

Small quiet beautiful campground with some of the friendliest people you can meet. Enjoyed our spot overlooking the Ohio river and the sounds of barges and trains going by.

We had site #6, one of the riverview sites. Pleasant stay, quiet even on a pretty crowded weekend.

The sites here are fairly close together. Not a big deal unless you get a loud group nearby.

Scenic area, hiking trails nearby. FYI- the state park golf course isn't there anymore, I had no idea (closed in 2019), disappointing. So my clubs collected dust in our 4 night stay. West Union is about 15-20 minutes away and has groceries if needed. Portsmouth a little further east.

What a great little family owned and run campground. The only thing you'll hear are barges running up and down the Ohio River and an occasional train over on the Kentucky side. Spots are big, grounds are neat and clean and the service is friendly and accommodating.

This is a very quiet place to camp. We are right on the river and enjoying watching the barges go up and down. Owners are very attentive and we see them out and about. Full hookups are a great feature. Also nice to have private showers. Campground is close to the Shawnee State Forest, so we headed over there to swim at one of the beaches. Also there's good softserve at the Buckeye Dairy Bar between here and Portsmouth.

We stopped at Sandy Springs overnight. Julie gave us a warm welcome. We stayed at a great spot on the second row, good view of the Ohio River. Individual shower rooms with toilet and sink were spotless and very roomy. We will stop again when in the area!

Small and clean private campground. I was looking for somewhere to sleep on our way back north and saw this highly reviewed on Dyrt, so naturally we took the chance. Glad we did. Although some of the amenities are dated such as the bathrooms and surrounding equipment, they make up for in cleanliness and attention to detail, way better than any state park. Example, heaters and reading material in the bathroom. Picnic tables and fire rings at all spots and in good condition, playground for the kids was better than anything so had ever seen at state parks. Every site is full service and river access for anyone who is eager to fish or just skip some stones.

Only downside I could think of is the active trains going up and down the river, however they don’t blow the horn - just the constant white noise of the engines.

This was the last campground before returning home from a month long camping road trip across the country and back. Picturesque camp directly on the Ohio River. Very level. Small campground with about 40 sites. Basically all sites are for RVs and equipped with electrical and water and most with sewer. We were tent camping and set up and a very soft & thick grassy space on one of the empty sites. The owners plan to install dedicated tent sites along the edge of the woods. There is a camp store with most needed items. Ice and firewood sold. Very spacious and individual toilet and shower & sink rooms. Good showers with plenty of hot water. Playground for children. Volleyball for anyone. Dumpster for trash. Great people. Easy to make reservations.
