Burr Oak State Park Campground

Very hot outside so aware that many sites do not have shade. Camp store people friendly, made a site change for us. The store has some basics but they were out of ice. The lodge is on the other side of the lake so about 10 minutes away. Going to rent a pontoon boat today and check out the beach, as well. In the 90’s so very few spots taken!

Stayed at a non-electric site for a weekend after Labor Day. All adjacent campsites were empty. It was great with silence and space, but would be considerably less enjoyable during peak times. Showers and restrooms were acceptable and what you might expect from a state park. The lodge on the opposite side of the lake offers great food and drinks.

The site was a good size, but not secluded. Decent hikes around the campgrounds

Burr Oak campgrounds is so relaxing and quiet I would recommend finding some wood early or buy it I'm not sure if you can bring your own so check before you do. The non-electric site's atr a little hilly but we slept in our Kia Soul next to the picnic table and fire ring

There’s access to bathrooms and showers, there’s also a plug in right where we camped which was a plus but didn’t need it. The park was empty and if it was busy you would be close to other campers

Luxurious accommodations and continental breakfasts won’t be found here…..a space to unwind and reflect will. The sites are sloped and ill paved but the sights, the sights are quintessential Southeast Ohio. Rolling hills dotted with little burgs where the oil has dried up but the resolve has yet to. A slight traverse down the hill lends views normally reserved for travel mags and postcards if just a bit of adventure is employed.

This is a small campground with mature growth. I had a nice view of the lake. Some sites are paved some gravel. Gravel sites are not very level. Bathrooms are clean and flush style. Camp Store staff was very nice.

We stayed down at the "lake" spots which are not on the lake but quite above it. Our first site was #19, we were even hesitant to park our 23ft camper in it, but we did and then realized that as soon as we try to get in or out of the camper, it was a steep drop down 5ft. All the sites around this part were steep and tents were pitched on hillsides and most people only stayed for 1 night. We moved to a flatter spot but still had some fun fanagaling the camper in it. Very quiet campground during the week but as soon as Friday hits, it's crazy and loud. We had some neighbors who didn't respect the Quiet hours starting at 10pm and were told very nicely by the Park Ranger and still made a huge fuss. Glad we only stayed for 2 nights.

We had a good time, but it was insanely crowded and the sites felt like they were on top of each other. Our site was a giant hill, so we had to sent up our tents right by our cars. Our fire ring also didn’t have a cooking grate on it.

We did enjoy getting to rent a boat for a few hours and enjoy the lake.

Most of the sites at this state park campground are very small and don’t have much level ground. Even the sites meant for RVs and trailers are right on top of each other. It’s almost like they took what should have been one site and made it two. There’s a handful of sites that offer a little space and level ground for tent campers. You may or may not have a picnic table and fire ring with a grill at your campsite when you arrive. According to staff, people take the fire rings and I guess there’s nothing they can do. Bathrooms were clean. The lake view trail was nice and accessible from the campground.

Site 41 with a paved pad and electric. We were across from the shower house and bathrooms. The office is closed but a staff person was on site. Our site was perfect for us with trees on either side to help with shade. Across our site was also a big green space to walk our dogs. Not all the electric sites have shade especially if you are up top. The lower electric is much better however some of the sites hardly have a space for tents and would be better for a camper. Lots of places to hike and a lake to kayak or canoe. There’s a big playground for the kids as well. The tent only sites are a little less desirable as they are all downhill and mostly uneven. They have flush toilets and sinks but you’d have to come up to the main campground to shower. Pick your site wisely!

I spent my time at the group camp area tent camping. I was there for a Buckeye Trail Association event called EGGS hike. It’s a 20 mile hike around the backpacking trail. We have 12 hours to complete the challenge. The group camp area only has pit toilets and no showers but the fields are mowed and level so it’s easy to set up camp.

Fantastic lake with good cheap boat rentals (paddle and pontoon) electric sites are definitely designed for RV or camper use instead of tent style. Electric sites are kind of small but not bad for a couple or small family. Overall great camp area with the lake and beach as the main attraction

Several fine camping spots for a fair price! Always clean. Private. The lake and lodge are very nice. A somewhat secret treasure in the area that deserves more attention! Fun for day trips and multi-day trips.

My family and I used to visit Burr Oak occasionally when I was young. In regards to what to do, activities center around the large lake. There’s an awesome lake with hiking, backpacking, and other forms of water recreation. Wildcat Hollow is another awesome location that is not far away. Overall is a good location, but nothing extremely special. However, there are a lot of lodges and cabins nearby.

We just had our 10th Annual EGGS Hike with the Buckeye Trail Association this past weekend at the Burr Oak Group Campground. We hosted over 60 hikers who registered for 20 mile, 40 mile, 60 mile or an 80 mile challenge in an allotted amount of time. The campground is very large with wide open space and drop toilets. There is a small shelter with electric and there are a few electric poles as well. You have to get a permit to camp there. There is an astronomy field, hiking trails and a boat dock down the road. It works great for our event!

Nice lake lookout from lodge, smaller separate cabins are available. Lodge has good food with a view, and boat docks are available at the end of a trail behind the Lodge.

The trails were okay. But the view and easy access to the lake was worth it!

We actually stayed at the lodge and it was lovely. We would hike around during the day and swim inside as it was before spring. Lots of great trails. We hope to come back and back pack one of the trails

Great cabin with a lot of room for family. Easy access to the water for a fun-filled day off boating.

Overall a very nice State Park! We stayed 2 nights of Labor Day weekend and had a great time. It was very very hot outside and we sweated our butts off , so we were very thankful for the nice showers . We went fishing and saw lots of butterflies. We cooked our meals on the fire , even though it was really hot. I wish there would have been electric sites just for tents so we could have charged our phones because they went dead pretty fast. Our site # 14 was very hilly but at least it had a tent pad at the bottom of the hill so it was flat where we were sleeping. At night we heard an owl and it was very peaceful. Overall a nice campground and we will return!

This is a great place to camp! Very spacious with lots of fire rings and picnic tables. The Blue Trail goes through here and provides a fun hike. There is a bathroom across the road and access to water at the entrance of the site. Showers are 15 minutes walk or a quick drive away.

One of our favorite places to camp. They have a nice beach and the lake is awesome. There are adequate shower facilities. Bring your own firewood. The firewood at the campstore is less than amazing.

We have camped in a tent here several times. Popular for Scouting campouts and popular with local boaters. Hiking trails are good, the lodge has been renovated, however, I have not stayed there since the reno. Fairly remote, cell service is dicey but if that is what you are going for, you will be pleased. Beautiful scenery. Fall is a good time to visit. Not much nearby in the way of supplies.

I may be a little partial to burr oak State park seeing how my great grandfather helped to dig the man made lake. I’ve grown up with taking family camping trips here my whole life. Decent beach for swimming, lake is great for fishing and nice hiking trails as well.

I went here with my brother for a backpacking trip around the lake and had a great time. The trail head is easy to find (near the lodge) and the trails are well blazed and easily followed. The trail itself follows the outline of the lake, roughly, and offers some spectacular views of the lake.

The terrain can be hilly at times but not overly so. And there are a great deal of interesting rock formations, wildflower groves, and various different kinds of environments to see along the trail.

The campsites are all drive in campsites at various points along the trail, many of which also have a dock. For more adventurous backpackers this can be a little disconcerting and take away any hopes of a back country camping trip. But for backpacker beginners it can be a great trail as there are water and bathroom stops at several points along the trail.

Overall I think it is a great trail for beginning backpackers.

I grew up near Burr Oak and spent a lot of time at the beach and campground as a child. The lodge has been remodeled and is absolutely beautiful and the food at the restaurant is delicious. Campers can rent pontoons or enjoy a day kayaking the lake, or swimming on the beach. the campground could use some updates. There are some really beautiful sites, but there are only a few with electric. The addition of concrete pads and electric would improve the campground considerably and attract more campers to this beautiful area.

Wayne National Forest shares the area with Burr Oak State Park near Glouster, Oh.

Wayne National Forest is split into three areas in southeastern Ohio. I could not find a Burr Oak, Oh and the site listed with this entry refers to the State Park near Glouster.

That park and campground are well maintained with a marina and trail that loops the lake at approximately 20 miles and is part of the Bobcat Marathon in December. There is a Long Beach with sand and dogs are allowed. The campground has sites that are relatively close together but level and helpful staff.

Burr Oak State Park is on the eastern edge of Wayne National Forest, outside Glouster, Oh , off Rt 13. The Lodge is on the opposite side of the lake off Rt 78.

The campground is above the beach area and takes a long walk/drive around to go swimming. Otherwise the sites, though close together, were level, partially shaded and well maintained. I got to put my Tentsile Tree Tent up and it love my Tentsile that much more.

The restroom is basic cinder block and open tank. The showerhouse is at the campstore/office.

The beach is cool with sand along a long graded stretch and dogs are allowed. The marina is down the road as well as the Lake Loop Trailhead.

This campsite kind of reminded me of the movie The Cabin in the Woods. It was woody and felt exactly like what a forest would feel like. There is a lake and the staff is pretty helpful. There is hot clean showers which is always a good thing
