Best Tent Camping near International Peace Garden

Tent camping options near International Peace Garden in North Dakota include several established sites within short driving distance. Pelican Sandy Recreation Area and Twisted Oaks Equestrian Campground offer tent-friendly camping experiences in the Turtle Mountain region, while Bisbee Dam provides another alternative approximately 40 miles southeast of the Peace Garden. These areas provide basic tent camping opportunities within the rolling landscape of north-central North Dakota.

Most tent sites in the Turtle Mountain area have minimal amenities suited for self-sufficient campers. The campground includes approximately six individual sites plus a group site, with picnic tables available. Sites are generally drive-in accessible, with level pads suitable for tent setup. One camper noted the area is "rustic and quiet" with multiple hiking trails available for exploration. Twisted Oaks Equestrian Campground, located across from Mystical Horizons, provides designated tent sites at $10 per night and features non-potable water, toilets, and campfire rings. This location is particularly suited for backcountry tent campers traveling with horses, offering 16 miles of trails including routes to Strawberry Lake Campground. Cell reception throughout the region's tent camping areas is limited, with most sites offering little to no service, enhancing the sense of wilderness immersion that tent campers often seek.

    Lake Metigoshe State Park Campground

    Birch Trees Everywhere!

This campground tucked away in the turtle mountains next to Lake Metigoshie is definitely worth the visit! The campground is located in a state park so rules do apply. Tents, rvs, cars are are easy to maneuver in and out with a pump station located in the park. The 4 season playground is home to a ski park near by with a brand new chalet and updated runs with a terrain park( depending on snow conditions) public beach access, hiking trails, snowmobile trails, and the International Peace Gardens located not to far away either! I recommend camping in the fall with tree colors! WOW!

    Lake Metigoshe State Park Campground

    Great Place to Unplug

Really enjoyed this state park. Lots of wildlife. Full hookups, clean sites and facilities—nicest public showers we have ever seen! Went fishing, swimming, explored the hiking and bike trails and did some geocaching. The International Peace Garden is about a half hour drive and that was beautiful as well.

    Lake Metigoshe State Park Campground

    Beautiful State Park

This State Park is in North Dakota near the Canadian border. With a very large body of water that has many amenities from fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. There are bike & canoe/kayak rentals right outside the park and a couple different campgrounds to choose from inside the park, ours was just a few feet from the lake and fishing dock. Depending on which campground you choose you will either have a vault toilet or a more convenient bathroom with toilets & showers! Staff was very nice and accommodating. There was even an Ice cream truck that rolled thru everyday for the kiddos!

    Lake Metigoshe State Park Campground

    Need to return!

We got there at dark, staff was super helpful with the park pass and buying wood. We camped in the North Star primitive sites, water spigot available, vault toilet not to far. We really enjoyed riding bikes on all the trails, only one we didnt get to ride was the Deer loop. Looking forward to returning to do some canoeing/kayaking , looks like there's a good loop set up with portages.
