I love this campground, it was like a breath of fresh air after getting lost in

I love this campground, it was like a breath of fresh air after getting lost in northeast north dakota and not seeing a soul for hours and sleeping on the side of the highway, driving up to Roughrider was like seeing an oasis in the desert. It is the nicest campsite we have been to in a while, $15/ night for primitive tent camping and pets allowed on leashes. The showers got hot INSTANTLY. We were welcomed so warmly after freezing in the car all night. 1000/10.

    Wow was it cold...and snowy

So we decided to do some camping in North Dakota the last week of november into decmeber. It was cold and we got caught in a snow storm. We survived it was ridiculous and hard core if i do say so myself. We did have a fishing tent with a wood stove..Because it was winter there were no amenities. But in the summer it would be a pretty sweet campground. But in the winter there was no one here and we got set up for the cold. I love camping in the winter but this was pushing our luck a little bit

    Cheers!

    Great price and sites

I love county and city parks. They are always such a great value. This one does not disappoint. Nice electric and water hookups (no sanitation services). Sites are all large. Tent sites are nicest as they are away from road. Tent sites are in separate area from rv sites. Expect road and rail noise at both.

    Very friendly owners

This site has both over night camping and long term lots for RV’s. It also has spots for tent camping so if you want a place to camp close to town this is great. The only downfall I would say, is that it is set up for more long term stay and if your looking for a great outdoor experience I would go more out of town but if you are here visiting family for a week or more this is perfect.

    Park is nice

Park was nice and they kept the facilities clean. We went to go fishing and the water was very busy with recreational boats. There is also some crazy weeds in the water. We caught 4 good sized bluegill to eat. The shoreline is packed with houses other than where the park was. We were in a tent campground and a camper came and parked and ran a generator for hours.

    Perfect!

Loved this campground so much! Each site has a concrete pad (some tent sites have wooden platforms) so leveling is super easy! Mature aspen and oak trees make up the majority of the grounds and this makes each site feel super isolated and private. Bathrooms are a little old, but the water was warm and had good pressure, so they were ok in my books. Signage isn’t super clear when coming into the park to find the campgrounds: it’s verrrrry far away and will make you question if you took the right road or not. The Gardens themselves are so beautiful to explore and there are lots of picnic areas that are super pretty! The gift shop is wonderful and has a great mix of Canadian and local North Dakotan products and goodies. Can’t wait to go back and rent a kayak and really explore more!

    Roughride Describes Our Experience

We followed our GPS to the campground (CG). There were no signs for this CG off of US-2/US-52 at the turn. Check-in was quick and we proceeded to a very tight pull through site 95 with FHUs. What we were initially concerned about was threading our truck and 5th wheel through two trees that make this a pull through. Other reviewers had labeled this site a“back out.” We also saw that to dump our rear black tank we would need more than 25’ of sewer hose and, unfortunately, we needed to dump for this overnighter. We couldn’t maneuver the rig to get our black tank connectors more in the center. If we pulled up any further we wouldn't have been able to get our bedroom slide out because of the two trees. We went back up to the office and expressed our concerns and asked for another site. One of the office workers got rude with us and said the only other site available was 93. We made an attempt to get into this site but there was a sewer system obstacle that presented an issue getting into the site along with how far forward the rig right next to us was parked. Back at the office, we said we'd just take our original site and make it work. The worker let us know her co-worker told us to pull in the wrong way and we could clear the sewer obstacle. We weren't comfortable trying to make the tight turn with the way the other rig was parked in the next site. The other person at the office also said they have a dump station where we could dump. As we had reserved a FHU site, we were not happy with this option. We went ahead and pulled back into site 95 and set up. When we hooked up water we found that the water hose 2-way splitter we shared with the site next to us would not open all the way. Not wanting to deal with the office anymore, we filled our freshwater tank and used our water pump. We got 3 bars on Verizon. This CG has a lot of site options from crammed together to nicely spaced with good yards. There are also tent sites. Along with the different site configurations, there are full timers, transient workers, seasonal, and short stay. In the row we were in, you are definitely stacked in there and you are door to door with another rig. If you decide to stay here try to avoid row 90-96 as they are very tight, you share utilities, and you are door to door with your neighbor. Needless to say, we will not be back.

    Lake Metigoshe State Park Campground

    Beautiful State Park

This State Park is in North Dakota near the Canadian border. With a very large body of water that has many amenities from fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. There are bike & canoe/kayak rentals right outside the park and a couple different campgrounds to choose from inside the park, ours was just a few feet from the lake and fishing dock. Depending on which campground you choose you will either have a vault toilet or a more convenient bathroom with toilets & showers! Staff was very nice and accommodating. There was even an Ice cream truck that rolled thru everyday for the kiddos!

    Small and cute, clean bathrooms

We stayed 3 nights in early September, Fri-Sun. I was a bit surprised at how few people were there - 2 or 3 long campers and we were the only tent campers. It was nice for privacy but felt a little eerie at times. That being said it was nicely maintained and I have to mention the bathrooms are replenished and cleaned daily and fully stocked with CHARMIN ULTRA toilet paper which is an absolute luxury at a simple campground lol. The showers are also pretty nice and the facility is heated. So appreciated. It has a little pavilion, a playground, “beach”, a couple cute bridges, a big grassy field for stargazing or throwing the ball around, a disc golf course, and of course you’re right on the river which is cool. Swimming is allowed at your own risk. I’m giving it five stars mostly for how well kept the bathrooms were, but it did feel a little desolate at times. I get it’s the end of camping season though and it was a little cold at night so that’s probably why. There are a few stray cats and dogs wandering about at times. We are good sleepers and this didn’t bother us much but there are heavily trafficked train tracks a couple hundred yards away from the campground so if you are a light sleeper or are bothered by trains this might not be the place for you. Umm all in all it’s a cute and peaceful little park that made a nice home for a few nights. It’s patrolled by police throughout the day too. We’d probably stay there again if we ever happen to go to Minot. Oh! There’s a decent North Dakota style winery (sweet fruit wines) a couple miles down the road with a lovely view and even some hikes. Worth a visit - Pointe of View. Ok, done now I promise.

    Lake Metigoshe State Park Campground

    Beautiful place to camp.

I’m a tent camper. I stopped here for one night while taking the high line on a road trip. The drive in is hilly and has spectacular views. It is well worth the few extra miles. The camp is clean. It is very family oriented. There were many tent campers. I was in the Washgum Loop on campsite #66 and the interpretive trail and and a nice area to view the lake was right next to my campsite. If you had your own kayak you could definitely drop in from here. The park service personnel were exceptionally, happy, informative and kind. I walked the full Old Oak interpretive trail and the pamphlet that you pick up on the way in to camp was nice to have. There is poison ivy here. There was some on my campsite and some on the interpretive trail.

    Strawberry Lake Campgrounds

    Quiet spot

Great little hideout next to hubbub of Lake Metigoshie. Spots are fairly small but a few can fit a larger tent or camper. Small but clean beach area, pump water, fairly clean toilet, tables, firewood, and garbage can. Nice lake to kayak, canoe paddle or fish without worrying about motor boats/noise. Over 16 miles of trails with maps provided on site.

    Loved it!

Many campsites, surrounded by trees. Stayed for two nights and didn’t even see everything at the park. Brought kayaks Into the pond/ lakes in the gardens. Wish we had brought bikes. They had hiking trails but didn’t get to do them. Wish I was still there!!! Site 24 could probably fit at least 5 tents but our camp site would have only fit three maybe

    Seclusion at it's finest!

My husband and I have stayed at this campground twice now and both visits were amazing!  We like to choose sites surrounded by trees and this place does not disappoint.  Plus, the raised tent platforms are a huge benefit!  The sites are huge, the bathrooms are clean, there is a ton of firewood available, and it is not crowded.  If you are in the area, this is a must visit!!!

    Lake Metigoshe State Park Campground

    Birch Trees Everywhere!

This campground tucked away in the turtle mountains next to Lake Metigoshie is definitely worth the visit! The campground is located in a state park so rules do apply. Tents, rvs, cars are are easy to maneuver in and out with a pump station located in the park. The 4 season playground is home to a ski park near by with a brand new chalet and updated runs with a terrain park( depending on snow conditions) public beach access, hiking trails, snowmobile trails, and the International Peace Gardens located not to far away either! I recommend camping in the fall with tree colors! WOW!

    Buffalo Lodge Lake

For a free campground & close to Minot, it was convenient

After advice from friends, we decided to test this place out since it is near Minot. We stayed Sunday through Tuesday, which was very peaceful for a small campground. I couldn't imagine this place on an actual weekend since there are no "reserved" camper spots, you can pull up and park anywhere.

I was forewarned about the toilets, there are 2 and only get dumped twice a year (beginning & end), good thing we have a camper. LOL!

I wanted to go swim but there was so much algae in the water after you wade out that I'd be afraid to get caught in them. Plus, the baby crawdads clinging to my legs made me think twice about going any deeper than my knees.

    Granville City Park

Best case scenario for a free camping spot

Great spot to stop and sleep for the night. Only open bathroom is a port-o-potty, however, they are well maintained. There are water spigots around outside, and multiple RV electric hook ups ($20 a day).

    Granville City Park

    Granville City Park

Bicycling along the Northern Tier, we stopped to spend the night in the Granville city park. The pipes froze over winter in the bathroom and were still not fixed. The mayor and plumber worked on fixing it well into the night. There was an outhouse available for us until they fixed the plumbing. At least they had a backup for us or it coud have been tough. The mosquitos were quite lively but they seemed to like the shade better than the sun. It was worth it to stay in the sun a little more to evade those pesky biters.

I am loving the way these small towns make their parks available to camp in. Most people in town will stop and talk with you. These are great opportunities that shouldn't be passed up.

    Surrey RV Park

    Small but clean

We stayed here for one night in October. They had already turned off the water for the winter so there was only electric available. I think there was eight or nine spaces with four that were pull through. There also looked to be a dump station, but we didn’t use it. Nice hiking trail behind the local cemetery. Reason I didn’t give it five stars is because there was quite a bit of road traffic and train noise. We paid $25 for the night and you can either leave cash or a check in the dropbox or I believe you can also go to the City Hall during the week.

    Great stop!

If you want a beautiful, relaxing, quiet stop then you'll love this place. It's full hookups with a picnic table, fire ring and trash can at each site. They have four rental RVs if needed. Horseshoes, volleyball, a free travel library with sitting room, firewood, lots of open space to play Frisbee with your pups. The town of Harvey isn't far and has everything you need.
