Free and hike-in only, Wesser Bald Fire Tower sits within Nantahala National Forest and draws campers primarily for its elevated views of the surrounding mountain range at sunrise. Sleeping arrangements are limited. The ground space for a tent is small, and hammocks strung in nearby trees are the more workable option, with some campers sleeping directly on the fire tower platform. Pets are allowed, campfires are permitted, and cell service is available. Bring a hammock rather than a tent, and plan your hike-in with enough daylight to get settled before dark.
