Mooney Gap Trailhead Campsite

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

A small clearing and firepit mark this free trailhead campsite in Nantahala National Forest, managed by the US Forest Service outside Otto, North Carolina. The site is drive-in accessible via a dirt and gravel road. Space is limited. Campers who arrive after dark may find it a functional overnight stop, but those with flexibility will find more room and distance from the road at nearby options like Mooney Gap Backcountry Group Campsite or Mooney to Bearpen Gap Backcountry Campground further up the trail. Pets are welcome, campfires are permitted, and there is no fee. This site works best as a last-resort stop rather than a planned destination.

Small site near parking area

This is a small clearing and firepit established near the trailhead at Mooney Gap. This would work in a pinch if you got to the site after dark and wanted to set up a site for the night. However, I would suggest continuing up the trail as there are many better options further along with more space and privacy from the road.
