Pisgah forest looking Glass trail head

From Looking Glass Falls, head south on US-276 (Forest Heritage Scenic Byway) for approximately 5.5 miles. The Looking Glass Rock Trailhead parking area will be on your left. The drive typically takes about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. The road is well-maintained and suitable for most vehicles. Look for signage indicating the trailhead as you approach. There is a small parking area at the trailhead, which can fill up during peak times, especially on weekends and holidays.

The primary trail accessible from the Looking Glass Trailhead is the Looking Glass Rock Trail, a challenging but rewarding 6.5-mile round-trip hike that climbs to the summit of Looking Glass Rock. The area also provides access to several other trails in Pisgah National Forest. Nearby trails include the Pink Beds Loop Trail (approximately 5 miles), the Cat Gap Loop Trail (about 4.5 miles), and connections to the Art Loeb Trail. For less strenuous options, consider exploring the nearby John Rock Trail or the forest service roads that offer more gradual terrain.

The Looking Glass Rock Trail is considered an intermediate-level hike with a moderate to difficult rating. While challenging, the payoff at the summit is exceptional, offering unbelievable panoramic views of Pisgah National Forest and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. The trail features a steady uphill climb with switchbacks and some rocky sections. Hikers should be prepared with proper footwear, plenty of water, and allow approximately 3-4 hours to complete the round trip.
