      Carolina Beach State Park Campground

      Nice, large, private campsites

We stayed in early August. Hot, humid, and raining. The sites are large and well kept. Bathrooms and shower houses are available and are clean and well maintained. Dumpster and recycle containers available on exit. Overall very nice!

      Carolina Beach State Park Campground

      Large, private sites

We quasi-boondocked our camper, stayed at a tent site. Nice, quiet campground. Lots to do in the area; could easily stay longer than the three nights we reserved.

Bath houses were clean, but need more hooks for clothes, towels, etc.

At dump station, the hose for cleaning the black tank leaked.

      Carolina Beach Tent Camping

This has always been my favorite place to tent camp when I get a chance to stay here as it can get very busy in the spring and summer months. I stayed in February and there was only a few other near my site. I enjoy the convenience of the nearby grocery stores and beaches. But if you’re not back before they close the gate at 7pm you won’t be able to get back to your site until the next day. So be mindful of the time. It’s for the your and the other campers safety. But you can park at your site and walk or bike in and out on the side of the road.

      Would stay again

We spent 2 months at HBRV campground in spring of 2026. The staff is amazing. Our campsite was a little tight, as many of them are. But they also have some spacious, private spaces. There are only 2 washing machines for the whole campground, so laundry can get tricky on busy days. Several showers (5) including a handicapped shower. Nice clean, hot, high pressure showers. Not much climate control in the bath houses, so it can be hot or cold, depending on outside temps. Great walking trail around the park, as well as a small dog park. Grounds are well maintained & is located about 2 miles from the beach with a free shuttle back & forth. They do charge $3 per package for any deliveries. Very quiet, friendly park & we would recommend staying there.

      Willow Tree RV Resort

Best campground we stayed at this year

This place is so amazing. Everything here on site is neat clean and in good working order all the recreational facilities are fresh and new. The bathrooms are absolutely cleaned very carefully. There were many surprises here as we enjoyed all the facilities. A local food truck came by to serve hot wings one evening. There will be a pancake breakfast in the morning and that’s a nice treat on a travel day the Pickleball courts are some of the best we’ve seen as is the bocce and shuffleboard the waterfront has anything you would never need to enjoy the lake. We will most definitely come here again and again and recommend it to everyone. My five stars doesn’t come easy, but it was easy to give to this place.

      Wilmington KOA

Family campground near the beach and Wilmington

Our kids where very happy with the little pool and we found good facilities to do the laundry. There are some nice shady spots and some are a bit crowded. But good full hook ups.

      Lovely campground

We stayed here on Labor Day weekend 2025. The staff I spoke with were friendly and helpful. The grounds before you enter the campground area are beautiful and well kept. The campground itself has many spacious, full hook up sites with packed gravel foundation. There’s no grass due to the mature pine trees but the community areas have lush lawn and beautiful flowers especially around the pond. The bathhouse and laundry were sufficient. They had a nice pool, playground, volley ball court and horseshoe pits. They have a large dog park. We look forward to inviting some friends to join us for group camping here sometime soon. Their nightly rates were very reasonable.

The surrounding Brunswick County features sandy soil and maritime forests that create distinct camping conditions throughout the seasons. Winter glamping remains popular with temperatures rarely dropping below freezing, allowing for comfortable year-round luxury camping experiences.

    What to do

Beach driving: 4WD access You can drive directly onto the beach near Carolina Beach State Park Campground, making gear transport simple. "You can drive onto the beach - it makes it SO easy!!!" notes Kimberly S. This feature allows glampers to easily access prime beachfront spots without long walks carrying equipment.

Explore native plant life: Carolina Beach trails showcase Venus flytraps and other carnivorous plants indigenous to the region. "There lots of short trails to hike on where you can enjoy bird watching and viewing the Venus flytraps and other carnivorous plants native to the area," explains Caroline G. Guided plant tours operate seasonally from March through October.

Water activities at multiple lakes: The shallow waters at Lake Waccamaw State Park Campground provide safe paddling conditions. "The lake is beautiful, shallow, warm, good fishing, fun for everyone! Bullfrogs, peepers, and owls called all night. Dragonflies galore flew about," writes Courtney B. The lake extends nearly a hundred yards of shallow water from the dock in all directions.

    What campers like

Private glamping setups: Secluded sites at Holden Beach RV Campground offer quiet luxury camping. "Our site was a pull thru which had full hook ups pleasant atmosphere nice little community area with cornhole boards and swing sets," notes Nicholas H. Sites include charging stations and covered seating areas for outdoor relaxation regardless of weather.

Winter camping comfort: Glamping structures maintain comfortable temperatures even in winter. "I've been here at different times of the year. I really enjoy camping here in December and January. Less people and the park is so nice," shares Ms P. from Carolina Beach State Park. The heated accommodation options include geodesic domes and climate-controlled yurts.

The vineyard offers tastings Thursday through Saturday from 12-6pm.

    What you should know

Individual bathroom facilities: Many glamping sites feature private bathrooms rather than communal facilities. At Wilmington KOA, "the bath house has a private toilet, sink and shower - beautifully tiled and maintained," according to Taissa K. These individual units provide more privacy than traditional campground facilities.

Cell service varies by carrier: Coverage depends on your provider and specific campground location. "T-mobile phone and hotspot work well, ATT hotspot ok," reports Robert M. at CarrollWoods RV Park. Most glamping sites offer WiFi, though connection quality varies significantly during peak usage times.

Beach proximity trade-offs: Staying directly at beachfront glamping sites costs more than inland locations. "Its a 5 because the only thing I don't like is out of the staffs control and that is location to the beach, its not far, too far to walk 5 minutes drive to the coast line," explains El Rhino C. about Holden Beach RV Campground. Most glamping facilities are within 5-20 minutes driving distance to beaches.

    Tips for camping with families

Water park amenities: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Daddy Joe's features extensive water activities for children. "Laser Tag. Splash pad. Water slides. Indoor and outdoor pool. Playgrounds. Dog parks. Putt-Putt. Ice Cream. Fishing. Basketball. Volleyball. Horse shoes…and our kids did it all," shares E G. Activities run from 9am-7pm during summer months.

Age-appropriate glamping options: Different structures suit various family compositions. "We stayed in site 5 for 11 days. The Yurt had been removed but the platform stayed. We were able to get up our large tent on the platform and have enough space for our chairs," explains Sara H. at Lake Waccamaw State Park. Families with older children often prefer separate sleeping quarters available in multi-room glamping units.

Off-season benefits: Visiting outside summer months means fewer crowds at glamping sites. "We camped at Carolina Beach State Park 1-2 times a year for the past five years... This campground is packed on holiday weekends. There were only 2 campsites available when we visited for memorial day weekend," advises Caroline G. Booking 3-6 months ahead ensures availability for premium glamping structures during peak periods.

    Tips from RVers

Proximity to supplies: Many luxury camping sites are strategically located near grocery stores. "This Campground is also located next to a Food Lion. It is also only 5 minutes from the beach and Freeman Park where you can drive directly onto the beach if you have 4WD," notes Caroline G. about Carolina Beach State Park. This convenience allows glampers to easily restock without long drives.

Seasonal rental options: Some RV glamping sites offer extended stay possibilities. "We decided to rent a permanent spot but aren't putting a deck on or anything like others as we plan to pull the camper out from time to time to travel," explains Ayesha H. at White Lake Motel & Campground. Monthly glamping rates typically run 50-75% less than nightly rate totals.

Site selection considerations: Choose glamping sites based on specific amenities.
