Great little spot and free

This campsite was a stop over for a trip out west.. and it was wonderful! Especially for being free. The trash was overflowing a little and the vault toilets obviously didn’t smell the best but aside from that it was all we could ask for. We had a picnic table, a designated fire area, a creek about…

Whitetop Mountain

Nice spot to pitch a tent or for car camping. Whitetop mountain has some of the best views in VA and is very popular for watching sunsets.

Beautiful, safe, peaceful, and fast cell service!

There are so many sites tucked along this dirt road and some incredible views! I spent almost 14 days here and almost didn't want to leave! The dirt road must've been regraded in the past year as it is easily drivable. I stayed in several sites further up the road and they're all good options!…

Secluded camping off the BRP

Needed a spot to stop at off the Blue Ridge Parkway and this did the job. There's no signs that this is a campsite at all other than the fire pits, but the sites were tucked away and you could pull your car right up to them. Some pretty great views off the mountains too and the site was really…

Spacious Family Campground

Plenty of room at every site. Arrived on a Sunday for a week long stay. Mid-week has been very quiet. Plenty to do, but not a commercial campground. Bank fishing in a small pond/lake. Lake beach area is nice. Game room was fun, but we felt pricey in this area ($1 for most games). Rec room has lots…

Lovely campground with lake access

Stayed in site A31, a pull-through site. No sites here have hook-ups. This campground is on a beautiful lake. There is no swimming on the lake(its pretty shallow) but awesome for kayaking and paddleboarding. There is wifi at the boat rental area, an easy walk from all parts of the campground where…

Incredible Scenic destination!

We camped here while learning g to roast coffee and it was incredible. It was early November and the colors were incredible. I think we missed peak colors by a week or so. The next week it dumped snow. I hate we missed that!

Secluded mountain camp

The host at the campground was welcoming and informative! I sadly do not remember his name, but he made sure I had all the information about the mountain camp land & trails and was incredibly hospitable. I wish I had time to spend more than one night so I could have explored the grounds! The…

Waaaay up in the mountains

If you are fearless and willing to take your RV up a beautiful small winding road into the mountains this is the place for you. However, for myself it rained… so it was quite the experience driving up and considering the limited visibility. Also when I arrived at my site there was no power on the…

Awesome view

I have stayed here many times both in an overlander and on a motorcycle. Usually there are plenty of spots available along the road but summer weekends can be full. Its great if you need a spot to pull over and crash.

VERY Primative

This site should not be confused with any other sites in area by similar name. You have to make a reservation with the park office for your site and drop by the ranger station to pick up your permit. The sites have NO vehicle access at all, you have to hike a mile into the campsite. The hike in is…

Better on Weekdays

We typically camp at the Catawba location and enjoy the views of and access to Lake James. We have learned to steer clear of weekends, though, as the boating noise and traffic can be excessive and make paddle boarding and kayaking a little less fun. Site 10 has good access to the water for tubes,…

The Family Campground section is exactly that...It's for Family's, Seniors

I have going to this site BEFORE it was a state park.  They developed it has a tent camping and put in two outhouses (pit toilets).  It was easy to go camp without reservations anytime.   The they installed the nice bathrooms and two RV sites.  Good Luck making a reservation.  It stays booked.  The…
