Fishing and swimming draw campers to this free dispersed site along Steele Creek in Pisgah National Forest, where natural rock pools form along the creek and established fire rings mark roughly ten individual spots. The road in is winding and crosses a submerged bridge, making it accessible to cars, trucks, and vans but not RVs. No cell signal is available, though at least one camper has confirmed Starlink works on site. The nearby Steele Creek campground provides a more developed alternative. This site works best for self-sufficient campers comfortable with rough road access and off-grid conditions.
Description
Dispersed campsites are primitive camping areas that don't have bathrooms or many of the other amenities you will find at developed campgrounds. Dispersed camping is only allowed at designated areas.
For site-specific information, call the local ranger station.
