Campers seeking primitive sites in forested terrain can access North Harmony State Forest through multiple entry points, though locating specific campsites requires some navigation. The campground sits right along the Pennsylvania border near Panama, with sites scattered along Snake Forest Road and around Little Brokenstraw Pond. Some sites require parking at a gate off Wiltsie Road and hiking in a short distance.
Sites near the water feature heavy mosquito activity, making bug spray essential for comfortable camping. The forest's location in Amish country means visitors may encounter horse-and-buggy traffic and occasional community gatherings. Campers can also explore The Heron Campground just one mile west for additional options.
Description
You may camp at one of the designated camp sites which are marked by yellow camp disks (pictured at right). There are site locations along Snake Forest Road, in the Wiltsie Marsh Area, and in the Jasper Park area (see map at top of page).
At-large backcountry camping is also allowed. Campsites must be at least 150 feet away from the nearest road, trail or body of water. Camping for more than three nights or in groups of ten or more requires a permit from a Forest Ranger.
