Amazing KOA

One of the better KOA campgrounds I’ve been to. Beautiful campground, well-maintained nice staff. Like any campgrounds there’s good and bad spots. We parked our camper along the river in the back and it was fabulous.

Mohawk Valley Beauty

A quaint little KOA along the banks of the West Canada Creek in the picturesque Mohawk Valley of Central NY. From Erie Canal cruising to tubing down the west Canada to mining for Herkimer Diamonds, there are plenty of things to see and do. Not too far from Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and about 1.5 hours from Saratoga, there is plenty to se and do.

Fun and Friendly Campground

Campground is on both sides of the road but traffic is not real bad. There is plenty to do for camping families and couples that enjoy a peaceful evening. Self escorted to site. Sites are a little tight getting in but once you are in you have plenty of room. Rules seem to be adhered to but you do not feel policed. You have easy access to the river for your fishing desire, or you can try your hand at mining for diamonds( real open put diamond mine. Two places to get food and town is about 7 miles with more opportunity for dinning. The campground does have a lot of cabin options.

Mining for diamonds is so cool!

What a great Holiday campground. This was a wayside stop for us getting between Niagara & Bar Harbor. And what a treat. An incredible plethora of things to do - river floating, great play ground and pool, well stocked store, the restaurant across the street at the mines is delicious, the diamond mines were AWESOME. We stayed and hammered for 3 hours and came home with great treasures. I’d definitely stay here again. We did 3 loads of laundry. Kids played pick up basketball games with other kids on-site and everyone was super friendly.

Really pleasant stay, the creek is amazing!!!

Went on a mother daughter camping trip at this KOA and it was such a pleasant stay! Usually when we camp, we’ll adventure somewhere most of the days whether to nearby towns or exploring but we stayed on the campground pretty much the whole time! Super relaxing and the creek is AMAZING. Both kid and adult friendly and it’s free, just bring a tube or purchase for cheap at the camp store. Lazy river flow with some faster spots, truly a perfect way to spend the days in the sun, hawks flying overhead and refreshingly cool and shallow water. The mines are wonderful also if you’d want to search for your own Herkimer diamonds (clear doubles terminated quartz). Star gazing, falling asleep to the sound of the creek, lots of fun spaces for kids, inexpensive, etc. We loved it so much, we extended our stay and are planning on doing another trip soon. Enjoy, fellow opt outsiders!

Nice clean place

Nice place. Very clean cabins, store disc golf course. Across the road from a do it yourself quartz mine. Plenty of things to do including tubing the west Canada river. Easy in easy out for the tubing. Had a great time.

Everything you need and more

This campground, a KOA campground, offers all you could need and more. From dry tenting sites, RV hookup sites, to elaborate and science-based cabins. They offer a children's playground, pool, little grocery store, volleyball area,  and of course, the Herkimer Diamond Mine and restaraunt, right across the street.

Keeping in mind , it is a busy family resort during prime season and holidays, so if you're looking for a quiet, non-crowded location, this may not be the place for you (unless you try it in offseason),   but the noise did not seem too bad in the evening, and the times Ive been there, most campers did seem respectful of each other.

There is a beautiful river where some of the sites are located next to, where you can wade into, kayak ,  tube down, or just sit on the bank and watch the local wild life swim by . There are bathrooms and showers, although not the cleanest I've ever witnessed, but they are sufficient and helpful if needed.

Some of the prices can be a little costly on some of the sites, but there are cheaper options on other sites as well, and with the diamond mine nearby, and all the activities that the park offers, it is definitely a park to visit, especially if you have children.

Great place!

All the amenities we wanted, a river for tubing, and easy drive from home. This was part of our gemstone trip which including sluicing, diamond mining, visiting the gemstone museum, then we stopped at Howe Caverns on the way home. Tubing was the big hit with the kids. Sites were large. Very clean.

Diamond mining

We spent three nights here. The staff is fabulous. The mines are so much fun. Some of the sites are crowded but each site has plenty of space. The whole park is well maintained. Lots of room to walk our dogs. We will visit again.

Manicured family camping

Like all KOAs this one is very well manicured, there are a lot of activities for kids and a river runs through it so you can tube from one side of the campground to another. The campground is also right across the street from one of the Herkimer diamond mines, so it’s convenient if that is your intended purpose.

We stayed her for the first time and compared to most KOAs we have stayed at this one was far better. I have a full review on my blog openboxreviews

Cons: low water pressure at our site

Firewood is expensive and you don't get much

Sites are close together and little to no privacy

Pros:

Pet friendly- has K-9 area for dogs to run off leash and do agility course

Lots of activities

Themed cabins

Almost all camping sites are on the water

You can go tubing from one end of the creek to the other- bring your own tube

Playground

Pool

Basketball court

Shuffle board

Level Sites

Full hook-ups

Across the street from Herkimer Diamond Mine

We had lots of fun, we spent one day at the mines and the next day we tried to do as many activities as we could- wiffle ball, made pinwheels, volleyball with a giant volleyball, bingo, family relay, ice cream social and dance party. Great time, clean campground, great staff.
