A lot of space

The water is easy to find, bathrooms are available with showers, and the options are tents, cabins, or RV camping. Do not leave food out. The bears are very ambitious.

The camping is always great, but...

After the last bad winter storm we had (2/2018) trees fell all over the park, including on my favorite hiking trails. Hemlock Hollow and Conservation Trails were grueling hikes this week, with a downed tree or 3 every 20 yards or so. There is cleanup going on, but it's going to be a while to make these trails relaxing and enjoyable again (as tough as it was, it was still enjoyable in hindsight… definitely not easy by any means, though).

ETA: 10/2019 The trail has been cleared since this storm and is a very enjoyable hike.  Kudos to ASP staff for trail maintenance!

New York Nice new cabins on PA-NY border

Cabins feel rustic but are new (2014?) and modern. Had everything we needed for a weekend with extended family, almost like a hotel in what they supply. Open all year. Allegany State Park is nearby for hiking, snowshoeing, XC skiing, leaf peeping, etc.

Family Favorite

I haven't been back to Allegany in some time, but my family frequented the park when I was younger. It's really an amazing place for a family trip since there are cabins! Our family of 6 fit comfortably in one cabin when we were all small. There's beaches, guided nature trails, biking, hiking. Basically, Allegany has it all. Do not miss the thunder rocks, they're really, really enjoyable.
