Description
Carson National Forest's mixed evergreen and aspen forest rises just above Palo Flechado Pass, where this stretch of FR 5 opens onto a large meadow with numerous dispersed sites spread at varying distances from the road. The area sits at around 9,100 feet, so expect cold nights even in summer. FR 5 is passable for most vehicles with reasonable clearance, though the upper reaches develop ruts and mud — larger trailers are best suited to the lower end of the road.
