Twenty-eight miles south of Austin, San Juan Creek sits within the open terrain of Toiyabe National Forest. The US Forest Service manages this established campground, operating from May through November when weather permits access to the area.
The campground provides a base for exploring the surrounding national forest lands. Campers can access campgrounds around Austin for additional options in the region. The open setting offers unobstructed views across the high desert landscape, though this also means limited natural shade during peak sun hours.
