Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Martell, NE

Camp A Way Campground and Eugene T. Mahoney State Park both accept pets in their tent sites, RV spots, and cabin accommodations. These pet-friendly options maintain clean facilities with well-landscaped grounds, though some campers note Camp A Way's proximity to interstate highways creates noise from trucks and motorcycles. Most campgrounds in the Martell area enforce standard pet policies including leash requirements, waste cleanup, and supervision rules. Branched Oak Lake State Recreation Area provides multiple access points for pets, including boat-in, drive-in, hike-in and walk-in options. Primitive camping spots at Bluestem State Recreation Area and Olive Creek Lake State Recreation Area offer fewer amenities but more privacy for campers with dogs seeking a quieter experience.

Several recreation areas feature lake access where dogs can cool off during warmer months. Wagon Train State Recreation Area maintains primitive sites with fire rings and picnic tables, though recent visitors report excessive mosquitoes can make outdoor time with pets challenging. Sites are spread out but the campground experiences significant traffic even at late hours. Bluestem State Recreation Area provides decent fishing and kayaking opportunities alongside camping, though some visitors have reported issues with accumulation of dog waste along the lake. Winter campers find these areas particularly enjoyable with fewer visitors. For campers seeking more amenities, Camp A Way offers numerous activities for families traveling with pets, though at premium prices ranging up to $97 per night for pull-through sites with patios.

Victorian Acres RV Park & Campground

    Trippin’ thru Nebraska

Coming from MO, Nebraska is usually just a one night stop for us (as we head onto bigger and cooler states). We were happy to find this clean RV park near Nebraska City. Big, but quiet. Friendly staff. Homey. Green space. Great dog park.

    Platte River State Park Campground

    Pleasant Surprise!

We were passing through Nebraska and opted to stay the night here. The campground is new and will be even nicer when the trees are big enough to provide shade. We only stayed one night but enjoyed the walk to the small waterfall in the park. There is a large dog park, clean restrooms and nice trails for walking.

Victorian Acres RV Park & Campground

    Nice campground but neighbors noisy

Just stopped for one night. Some highway and train noise whenever outside. Neighbor playing music outside late at night (after 10pm) which was annoying. Came after hours and name was left on board with check in info: Sites are nice with trees and vegetation but not very level. Dog park is nice though

    Would recommend for a stopover

    Nice park

Stayed here for a week over 4th of July, 2020 amid COVID19 restrictions. Lots of shade, though some sites are full sun. Great dog park: large, secure and shaded. Play ground, basketball, pool, family activities. Very clean restrooms. Good camp store with decent prices. Easy access to Omaha.

    Camp A Way Campground

    Great Location... Very Crowded!

This was a great location to explore different areas but it is a very crowded location. Some people like that and visiting with everyone.  That is not for me.  The campground is well maintained, the staff is friendly and our dogs enjoyed the dog park on the property.

    Double Nickel Campground

Very nice grounds and great amenities

Popped in for a quick one night stay on our way west. Chose this place based on reviews on The Dyrt. It is mid week in October but it's so quiet, which we really like. Great pull through spaces with full hook ups and fantastic WiFi which allowed me to get some much needed work in. When I told the owner we had two dogs he put us directly across from the dog park which our pups really liked. Super cute touches around the place including bench swings at all the sites. Looks like the place could be great for families in the summer.

It is directly adjacent to the highway so there is some noise but it's not too bad. We actually felt it was quiet and relaxing.

Guide to Martell

Camp A Way Campground accepts pets in their tent, RV, and cabin accommodations with clean, well-landscaped grounds just minutes from Lincoln. The primitive camping areas at Bluestem State Recreation Area offer pet owners more secluded options with decent fishing and kayaking opportunities. Most campgrounds in the area require pets to remain on leash at all times, with designated pet waste disposal stations available throughout the facilities. Dog mess has occasionally been an issue at some locations, particularly noted at Bluestem where one visitor encountered significant amounts of waste along the lake shore. The sites at Wagon Train State Recreation Area are spread out nicely with plenty of grassy space to separate pets from other campers.

Eugene T. Mahoney State Park Campground provides tent sites, RV hookups and pet-friendly cabins for those seeking more comfortable accommodations with their animals. The surrounding recreation areas offer multiple water access points where dogs can cool off during summer months, though swimming is restricted to designated areas. Hiking trails connect many of the parks, providing good exercise opportunities for both pets and owners. Visitors should be prepared for variable weather conditions that can affect pet comfort, particularly during Nebraska's hot summers and cold winters. When camping at these primitive sites, travelers should bring adequate drinking water for both themselves and their pets, as potable water is limited in some locations.
