Disc golf, lake access, and a beach are all within reach at Area Three Campground, a primitive site on the peninsula of Branched Oak Lake State Rec Area. Sites on the east end sit directly on the water. Amenities are minimal: expect a picnic table, burn pit, and vault toilet reported as less than clean. Fees run $15 per night for a site without hookups, plus a $12 out-of-state vehicle fee. A dumpster near the camping area gets serviced on Monday mornings. Late-season visits tend to draw few other campers. This campground makes sense for anglers and paddlers who prioritize water access over comfort.

Happy to be left alone.

Late October tent camping- low around 19f... we seemed to be the only souls in the place.

Our site was a few hundred yards from the lake, and we had a great morning walk.

Downsides:

Cost- $12 for out of state plates and $15 for a site without amenities is steep.

We were also by the dumpster, and they came by to empty it around 7am. Probably a Monday morning problem, but still worth mentioning.

Primitive Camping at $15 a Night

This is primitive camping on the peninsula of Branched Oak, so you get close access to Disc Golf, nice beach, and Showers just up the road. On the east end there are sites right on the water. Yet other than the regular old picnic table, burn pit and rather dirty vault toilet, there is nothing else here.

For $15 you can do better in Nebraska
