Whitetail Camp

There appear to be two Whitetail Campgrounds in Montana. One is located approximately 25 miles up the Yaak Highway alongside a river in northwestern Montana, near a large moose pond that offers wildlife viewing opportunities. The other Whitetail Camp is situated in the Little Belt Mountains, about 12 miles north of U.S. Highway 12 on Spring Creek Road. Both offer distinct Montana camping experiences in forested settings with nearby water features.

Whitetail Camp appears to operate on a first-come, first-served basis without a formal reservation system. For the most current information about availability and any potential reservation options, contact the local Forest Service office that manages the area. Given its location in a less developed area, it's advisable to arrive early during peak seasons to secure a spot, especially on weekends. The campground's dual nature as part established sites and part dispersed camping may provide flexibility if the main sites are full.

Whitetail Camp offers a mix of established campsites and dispersed camping areas spread along both sides of Spring Creek Road. The campground features access to water with its riverside location and proximity to a moose pond, making wildlife viewing a notable attraction. While basic in its offerings, the natural setting provides the main appeal rather than developed facilities. The campground's layout allows campers to choose between more structured sites or more primitive dispersed camping options depending on their preference.
