Reservations are available year-round at this KOA franchise sitting about four miles north of Alpine Lodge RV Park- Gateway to Beartooth Highway, with sites accommodating rigs up to 68 feet and full hookups including electric, water, and sewer. The campground runs along open terrain near a creek, and the layout divides into two distinct sections: a north side where the creek provides ambient sound, and a south side closer to the playground. Road noise is a documented drawback, as the property sits directly alongside the main road through the area.
Cleanliness comes up consistently in reviews, though not without some variation across visits. Hailey L. describes "safe and clean sites with lots of fun things for the kids," and more recent reviewers note visible renovations under current ownership, including refurbished cabins, patio sites, and a heated pool. WiFi has been a recurring complaint, with signal limited near the office and spotty across the rest of the property. Cell coverage also gets mixed marks, so campers who need reliable connectivity should plan accordingly.
The campground functions well as a base for the surrounding region. Beartooth Highway, one of the highest paved passes in the country, is within close reach, as is Chief Joseph Highway. Deb K. notes "sites were level, patio sites are beautiful and cabins are new or completely refurbished." A trail off the campground provides direct access to the surrounding terrain without driving anywhere. Multiple reviewers used the site as a staging point for day trips toward northern Yellowstone, roughly an hour and a half away.
Wildlife sightings come up in reviews more than any other theme. The open terrain and creek proximity likely contribute to that. For campers exploring campsites near Red Lodge, this KOA covers the full amenity range, including showers, a dump station, and drinking water, making it a functional home base for multi-day itineraries in the Beartooth range.
