Yaak River Campground is located approximately 8 miles west of Troy, Montana and 6.5 miles east of the Idaho border on Highway 2 . This campground is located at the confluence of the Kootenai and Yaak Rivers. There are campsites on both sides of the Yaak River.
The Yaak and Kootenai Rivers provide ample opportunity for visitors to enjoy fishing, rafting and canoeing, among other activities. Boats can be launched at a primitive boat ramp near the campground. Anglers can expect a catch of mostly whitefish and a variety of trout.Hiking and mountain biking opportunities are available on a variety of trails within the Cabinet Mountains. Kootenai Falls, the largest un-dammed waterfall in the state and an attraction of historical significance for the Kootenai Tribe, is located about 15 miles east of Yaak River Campground. It offers spectacular views, as the river drops 300 feet in just a few hundred yards. A swinging bridge is available and provides a different point of view to see the falls.
The group day use area is located on the east side (Loop A) of Yaak River Campground. Both facilities are in a heavily wooded part of the forest, with the Yaak and Kootenai Rivers running nearby. Tall grasses, shrubs and young pines cover the ground and mature evergreens offer shade overhead. The facility is situated at an elevation of about 1,900 feet, close to the Montana-Idaho border in northwestern Montana. A variety of wildlife makes its home in the area.

We stayed in a yurt it was clean and dry. The camp grounds were nice maybe a bit over crowded but I guess it was that time of the year.
TravelerStopped by on my way through Montana in May. The campground was empty except for 3 other families since it was still the off season, so it was a very quiet stay and I got to fall asleep to the sound of the river right behind my spot.

The location of the campground is great, very close to the mountain town of Whitefish Montana and right along Whitefish Lake. The sites are small and the road is narrow but it is beautiful. I would be cautious about bringing any large campers to this area but the tent sites are nice. Be aware of ticks. Some sites are nice and level but others have a heavy slope.

Sylvia Lake is tucked back into the Flathead Forest. Wild fires have burned through this area leaving a path of dead tree stand as a reminder of mother nature’s fury. It’s oddly beautiful as the new growth is finding its resilient way back.
The road to the lake is long, winding, often rutted and dusty, BUT the lake beckons to be explored. There is designated camping as well as a few dispersed spots that have been created over time. You will find no amenities and you are quite a distance from any sort of cell service or stores, so come prepared.
The sketchy rope swing was left untried but the crawdads were plentiful! If you want to disconnect and want something other than the typical Montana camp, Sylvia is just right.

GuideThe road in is a little tough. When you get to the campground, you realize it was worth it. Absolutely gorgeous lake nestled in the surrounding mountains. Campsites are large with good shade. Lake is picturesque. Peaceful with a full sky of stars every night. Best camping!
GuideThis is one of our favorite spots to camp with our pups. The sites are nice and close to the lake and there's plenty of trees offering shade and privacy. The fire pits are great having a primitive grill. Bear proof cans are provided at each site and there is a hand pump water spigot for potable water. It's always been clean and well kept when we've visited.
TravelerThere is the old warden camp and down on the creek. No services, semi remote, very quiet, dusty, views of the mountains. You are in grizzly country. Lot’s of deer walking around, very safe , locals are very friendly.

GuideTuchuck campground is a perfect location for an overnight camp when traveling from Polebridge MT to Eureka MT. The road is well marked but does pass thru several locations that have been covered with rock slides due to recent forest fires. Road is single track in spots but does pass thru several remote locations. Camp ground has a creek running to the south side with a good amount camping locations. Fire rings and benches are available in most spots.
GuideThis is a great campsite. The pit toilet is clean and it is set up as a horse camp. Ramps for loading horses and trough for feeding. Plenty of space for tents and small campers but as noted before, the road from Polebridge is a little tough for RVs.

The Yaak River campground is a local summertime favorite! Although busy for day-use but locals, the campground can often be quiet in the evening hours. A number of great swimming holes and the waterfall itself make this a great choice! Also, great proximity to trails, beautiful drives, and even some beer on the Yaak River!
GuideIt's only small the first 2 sites are the best. Valt toilets cleanish it is free tho with 10day limit. No room for rv or trailers. Sweet swimming hole down the creek with some really good fishing too. You can walk up to the falls either on a trail or along the river on the slate rock. Yaak river road is beautiful worth a night or 4 or 6.
TravelerWe camped here on the last night of our Flathead area trip and I have to say this site was easily my favorite place we stayed. We pulled in around 2 PM on a weekend and had no problem finding a spot. This campground works best for tents but you could pull in with a small trailer. The short walk to the river makes for great swimming and picture taking. There is some highway noise but it is not a heavily used road. Would highly recommend this campground.

We were able to snag a spot close to the river, so we slept to the sound of rushing water. I’d estimate that half the primitive spots could fit a medium sized RV, the others are car/tent sites.
TravelerJust a pit toilet and small campsites punctuate this FF jewel. In late July 2020 I arrived about noon and quickly rinsed off in the surprisingly clear bottom of the falls. About 5pm a large group of locals converged at the pool and proceeded to have a party. When they departed, they didn’t leave a scrap of litter. Nonetheless, it was an experience I’ll never forget because of the horizontal rock falls. No water, no trash, pit toilet
RangerThis campground has camping on both sides of the Yaak river. I would not recommend anything over 25 ft but that's me. Our 34RLSA 5er couldn't get in. Deep woods feel with all the trees and shade. Solar would be a challenge. 40 or so sites water spigot available. Beautiful area. 6 miles east if Idaho border.
