        Yaak River Campground

First time camping 🏕 Had a good time

It was my first time camping! Went camping with my fiance.

        Pros

        • The check in process is easy. Just make sure you have cash
        • lots of trees to hang a hammock
        • fire rings with grill top
        • bear boxes for your food
        • the sound of the river makes you fall asleep!

        Cons

        • No sink in the bathrooms.
        • No internet service. Dead zone.

        Recommendations

        • Definitely recommend bringing cash to pay for your site and firewood.
        • bring hand sanitizer since there aren't sinks or soap
        • There's a DG about 20 minutes away in Idaho to grab snack goodies c:

        Worth the trip

This is one of our favorite spots to camp with our pups. The sites are nice and close to the lake and there's plenty of trees offering shade and privacy. The fire pits are great having a primitive grill. Bear proof cans are provided at each site and there is a hand pump water spigot for potable water. It's always been clean and well kept when we've visited.

        Convenient to Whitefish

Small campground surrounding a busy boat launch and beach. Lots of people having lots of fun on a July Sunday. Not really away from it all. Monday is much more peaceful. Train is a reality here. Train-side sites have more privacy. Many of the sites on the other side are right on the camp road.

        Camp on the Lake!

$10 gets you an night of camping. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table. First come, first serve. In the winter, the bathrooms are closed but a port-o-john is provided. Woke up to a bunch of people ice fishing! Only 3 minutes from downtown. Away from it all while close to it all.

        Yaak River Campground

Beautiful, wooded CG on the Yaak River near the confluence with the Kootenai. The Yaak actually goes through the CG so campsites are on both sides. Deep sites with privacy. Pit toilets. Campground host there. Road/train noise but not overbearing. Stayed for two nights.

        Yaak River Campground

Quiet & Wooded, Right on River

We stayed a Friday night in late July. Got a FF site at 3 PM and the place never filled. There are two campgrounds (east & west). The eastern one seemed nicer with more access to River.

Loads of trees and shade - hard to get solar power going. One water spigot near host and nice vault toilets throughout.

Overall very quiet and natural. There is a train across the River that come thru several times a day for a few minutes each pass but not at night. Some nice folks and hosts were great.

        Great campground

A very nice small campground. About 2/3 of the sites are full hookups. Rest water and electric. Tent sites. Owners are great people. Very helpful for sure. They have a path you can walk down right to the Kootanie river with chairs and picnic tables to sit on. Very nice. Grounds are clean and tidy. Owners care a lot about their customers. Bathrooms are clean. Showers also clean. Would recommend staying here if your in the area.

Great spot by the Yaak River

Stopped by on my way through Montana in May. The campground was empty except for 3 other families since it was still the off season, so it was a very quiet stay and I got to fall asleep to the sound of the river right behind my spot.

        Tuchuck

        Quiet spot by creek

This is a great campsite.  The pit toilet is clean and it is set up as a horse camp.  Ramps for loading horses and trough for feeding.  Plenty of space for tents and small campers but as noted before, the road from Polebridge is a little tough for RVs.

        Great stop!!!

Stopped here after leaving Glacier NP. I’m sure it’s crowded in the summer, but there were only a few others with us on this day in May. Bathrooms were super clean, showers were $3 for 6 minutes and you have to get tokens from the staff. I believe we paid around $28 since we were out of state, but it was worth it for us. The train is loud, but not a huge deal for us as my friend never even heard it in the night.

        A nice family campground.

We enjoyed our time at this camp. Most sites are for RVs, but we got a tent site. Unfortunately, my two year old son didn’t settle for bed easily when camping. I ended up in hotels a couple nights, just because I didn’t want to bother the other campers. The time I did stay there was nice. The hosts are very helpful and kind as well.

Didn't Realize The Proximity to the Train Tracks!

I snagged a spot here for one night on my way through Whitefish. The lake and beach looked awesome and I definitely would've gotten out for a paddle if the weather had been slightly warmer.

The location was super convenient and just a five-minute drive away from town. The facilities were also clean and well-maintained.

The campground itself was relatively empty and quiet when I visited, but my site was right underneath the train tracks, which I didn't realize until the first train of the night came by and woke me up around 2 am.

After that, it seemed like another train came through every hour on the hour. In hindsight, I would've chosen an open site on the other side of the campground to minimize the overnight train noise.

Beautiful small campground on a beautiful lake, but......

Let's address the elephant in the room. The train. Yep it runs right next to the park. Yep it can be loud and annoying, but don't overlook this place because of it. Bring earplugs and a white noise machine and you will sleep like a baby. You are just steps from the lake. Paddleboard and kayak rentals are available at the park. There are hike/bike in sites. Super clean. Small, but like most state parks, the sites are not jammed together like commercial campgrounds. See photos for views of the sites. Nice showers NOTE: showers are token. $3 for 6 min. Available from the folks that check you in. There is a great public golf course nearby. The town is terrific. The hike/mountain bike trails are really cloae. We would definitely return.

Quartz Creek Campground — Glacier National Park

        Off the beaten path

There are about 8 sites here, several miles down the road from the —- Glacier ranger station. It’s quiet, all you can hear is the creek and the wind in the trees. Sites 4 and 5 are the best as they are right on the creek with water access. There is one central bear box, one central water pump (currently NO water), and one clean vault toilet. You are close to a couple of trailheads as well.

Okay park not suitable for big rvs

Some cool features but more driven for kids. We stayed for two nights to ride the downhill park but wish we chose something closer with hooks ups. There was some cover but it was hot when the sun was shining.

We were asked to turn our generator off by our neighbors but were told it can be ran during daylight hours from staff.

One huge turnoff for me was dogs running around unleashed. It seems it was the vibe here and others mentioned it as being cool, but having two dogs who don’t like others invading their space made it difficult. Our pooches spent most of their stay indoors for this reason.

We took our 24’ trailer in with our Tundra. It was gravel, bumpy and steep in spots I would not advise anything longer.
