Horse Prairie Cabin near Dillon, Montana offers basic accommodations for backcountry equestrian camping. Located 45 miles south of Dillon in the Beaverhead National Forest, this primitive cabin is accessible via a drive-in route that can accommodate horse trailers. While the cabin itself does not feature dedicated horse corrals, the surrounding area provides ample space for portable corrals or highline setups. Sites remain separate enough that campers wouldn't be tripping over others even when the area is at capacity.

The cabin is situated near multiple trail systems providing access to remote riding opportunities in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Proximity to Mill Creek Trailhead offers connections to alpine lakes and wilderness riding routes. Horse owners should note that water access is limited, requiring campers to bring sufficient water for their animals or locate natural sources. The area experiences seasonal closures with limited accessibility during winter months. Countryside RV Park in Dillon offers an alternative for equestrians seeking full hookups and more developed facilities when traveling through the region, with spacious sites that can accommodate larger rigs and trailers in a location surrounded by mountain views.

      Lots of green grass!

This is a great place in Montana. Easy access. Right outside Dillon MT. We stayed here one night and then the the Lewis and Clark Limestone Cavern tour. It is about an hour. Camp ground is super clean and all the sites are very easy to access. Very nice hosts.

      Mill Creek Trailhead & Campground

      Gorgeous Area!

We stayed in site 4 and we only saw one family but they were a few sites away. Part of that had to do with the rainy weather that week was. We were right by the river and it was kinda loud because of spring run off, but we got used to it and it was good! The Millcreek trailhead was super close and it was absolutely stunning! We made it up to the lower lake and thought we got there, but we actually didn't reach the real lake. Come to find out it was like another 1000 ft up the trail. 😅 Definitely one of my favorite camping trips!

      Countryside RV Park

      Countryside for one night

The sites are good sized and easy to pull through. Gravel road in good condition. No trees and in a wide open location. Water was available but not yet turned on so we could not hook up. Electric was fine. It did have sewer but we did not use it. Bathrooms were very small with curtain stalls that hit your knees. Sorry, I don’t remember seeing showers. This location is beautiful but can be very windy. We were there on a very windy night. Grounds seemed in good condition.

      Mill Creek Trailhead & Campground

      Great campground

$5 a night. No service. 1 vault bathroom. About 6 camp spots. Not super packed. No water. A great place to camp with lots of trees. Picnic tables and fire pits. No many bugs.

The highlight of the area is the 2 mile hike to get to the lake above. Definitely worth it!

Friendly and clean. I would have no issue staying here again if I was back in the area.

      Mill Creek Trailhead & Campground

      Nice secluded campsite

Nice secluded camp with trees to block most of the wind, the sites are separate enough that you wouldn't be tripping over other campers even if the site was full.
