The tower provides spectacular views of the surrounding western Montana wilderness.

While it might take about six months to complete, a variety of day hikes and points of exploration are available within the area of the lookout tower. Trails can be enjoyed on foot or on horseback. It is across the river from the border of the 1.5-million acre Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. Famed explorers Lewis and Clark passed through on their way to the Pacific Ocean in September of 1805. Elk, deer, moose, bear, cougar and mountain goats make the steep canyon country their home.

Great campground with some FCFS sites (loop A and 1/2 of loop B) and some reservable (1/2 of loop B and all of loop C).
There are no campsites directly on the lake, but there is a view of it from a few of the sites and it's an easy walk through the CG to get to it.
Lots of wildlife around and paved road to and through the CG
We spent a night here in June. We left a night early because a hard rain came in, but we had fun while we were there. The campground is very clean and quiet. Our kids loved the winding roads for their push bikes. The only thing we wished for was a dock, so we could easily fish with young kids.
Spent two nights here along the river. Nice Camp store with everything you would need and it’s close to town.

This spot was Amazing! Our room was stunning. So charming, spacious, cozy, Fun, and had everything we could ever need. On top of the wonderful accommodations, the STAFF! The staff and owner went Above and Beyond for us when my boyfriend left behind a beloved baseball cap in our room. Totally our fault, and we figured we’d never see the sentimental item again. On a whim, I called Travellers Rest and they couldn’t have been nicer. They found the hat and mailed it from Darby to Bozeman and we had it back in no time. It was so kind and truly showed the heart of this cool spot. We would Love to stay here again when in the area!

Snagged a FCFS site at this wonderful Montana state park after reading reviews. So glad I did. Such a nice campground, nice neighbors. Lots of people out on the lake boating. There is a boat launch in the campground. Snow covered peaks still visible in late June.
Not a lot of shade due to beetle infestation. But wasn't an issue in June. All boats, including inflatable kayaks need to be inspected at a Montana inspection station before launching in the water

This campground is right on the Lochsa River behind Lochsa Lodge. Some sites are reservable and some are FCFS. The river there is gorgeous. If you have a side by side there are lots of places to explore nearby. And if you don’t feel like cooking, you can run up to the Lochsa Lodge restaurant for a meal.

I stayed 3 nights in July- They were very helpful with where to go in the area, the showers/baths were brand new- clean. They had activities over the weekend- music over the weekend. Trees created privacy. Right on the river.
Philipsburg Bay Campground is a beautiful large campground right on the shore of Georgetown lake. This 69 site campground sits among large pine trees with campsites nicely spread apart. The large trees give you plenty of shade throughout the day. This paved campground is split up into three loops, two of which are first come first served, the other can be reserved. The area also has a day use area and boat launch. Cost is $15 per night. Campground has trash service, and water is available during the summer season. I visited in November so no water for me. Each site has a picnic table and metal fire ring. Several vault toilets are located in each loop. Bear lockers are spread out through out the campground for food storage.
Saw a moose everyday we were here. No beach area nearby, only access to the water is the boat launch area by loop A. The water in the bay is a bit gross, but you can’t beat the views.
We were supposed to stay here two nights while fly fishing but ended up leaving one night early. We have never ever witnessed bullying and aggression from hosts like we witnessed here. Stay away! The owner admitted his employee over stepped his bounds and was out of line, but tried to justify it by what had happened a day earlier when we weren’t even there. Totally unprofessional and scary.
We were in the area to fly fish and just needed a basic place to park our RV with power. We left the first location we were at due to extremely unprofessional and dangerous employees. We drove down the road to Traveler’s Rest, a little frazzled from our recent experience and were very relieved that they were friendly, had availability and the facility was clean and nice. We do many activities in this area and will return to Traveler’s Rest again!
We stayed in spot number 12. Full hook ups. Would have preferred to stay closer to the river but we were told that it wasn’t available, but I never saw anybody park there. It would’ve been cheaper, and I didn’t need for hook ups. They were polite and nice, they ask you not to put out mats outside your camper because they are trying to regrow the lawn.
We bought our trailer a couple miles away, since we drove from Washington we wanted to stay in our new to us trailer. We called they were very friendly and got us a beautiful site by the river.
Great spot. The people here are very nice. There was plenty of room for our 36’ toy hauler. Dogs were happy to play in the creek.
Leads to a private farm not a site
This is not a fancy campground but we loved it. It’s on the Bitterroot River with the Bitterroot Mtns behind you and the Sapphire in front. The spaces are on the grass with full hook ups. They have a little store for groceries and Sunday’s and sell propane. The nights are dark and star gazing is wonderful. Hamilton MT is 2 miles away with all amenities and if you like craft beer, there are two breweries. There are also some sites right on the River but they are not full hook up.
Well worth the drive and the short hike up the mountain. Beautiful views from all around the tower. Very peaceful and relaxing. The tower sleeps 2 with a bed platform. Items provided are a coleman latern, a 2 burner propane stove, a wood stove for heat, a bow saw, and an axe.
There is an outhouse on site along with a firepit.
Nice campground between Philipsburg and Anaconda along hwy 1. Less than 20 sites, it was clean and compact, but still afforded each site some separation from other sites. The trees have been thinned due to the invasive beatle kill, but new trees are growing. Even though you are close to the road, it’s not terribly loud, especially if you can get a site towards the back. I thought the water tasted exceptionally good from the spigots. You are close enough to the lake for water sports and there are some nearby ghost towns to explore.
What an unbelievable place. Found this place on a total random pick. I was actually a little concerned about the cell/WiFi ability with being so potential remote. When we booked our RV spot with Porter he mentioned that Verizon cell service wasn’t very good but they did offer free WiFi which was extremely important as my wife needed it for work. When we arrived we found zero cell service but the WiFi was a savor. Now depending of what your here for no cell and WiFi could be just fine, I surely enjoyed the seclusion and being disconnected from the world.
We stayed in site #2 pretty close to the lodge which I think helped with the WiFi signal. The sites are large and easily fit our 28’ trailer and truck. Definitely could fit any size class A rig. There are full hookups at each site 20, 30, and 50amp at each site as well I believe. Not sure if you can get any closer to the river. The back of the trailer was probably less than 10 ft. to the river. Outstanding view.
The fishing was spot on, right on the river you don’t have to even drive anywhere if you don’t want. They also offer kayak rentals. Unfortunately I didn’t realize how warm, calm, and popular the river was. Next time we come back we will definitely float the river.
If there was really anything they could add, would possibly be something for kids to do. Just as a family of four with a 3 and 6 year old, they can only fish so much.
But over all 5 star, unfortunately this place won’t stay a hidden gem for much longer, can’t wait to come back. A huge thanks to Porter again!
Morgan bar was a nice place to stay the night I loved to hear the river flowing in the background it was very peaceful. There was 2 other people camped so it was quiet. Bring bug spray it was buggy! We had a cute bunny visit our site as well as the camp hosts dog she was very sweet. I will definitely be back.

Nice camp host. Spots are decently far from each other (25-50yds). River is beautiful.
This is not really our type of camping spot. It’s more of an RV park than a camping spot, but for what it is, it’s nice. They have spots right on the Bitterroot River. It’s a bit crowded. We were right on top of 2 other campgrounds, but some spots are bigger than others. Look at their map before selecting a site.
Still, the facilities were clean, customer service was great, the location was convenient to many good fly fishing rivers, and we had WiFi, which we hadn’t had for weeks in our previous camping locations.
The RV sites are level and have lots of shade and privacy. This is the kind of campground you want to stay a few days to relax in. There are communal water spigots, but they are not threaded so you can’t screw on a hose to refill your tanks. The pit toilets actually smell good, provided people follow directions to leave the lid shut.
