This free US Forest Service campground provides three sites accessible via well-maintained gravel roads from Ashland. Located within Custer National Forest, Holiday Spring operates from mid-April through November with vault toilets and allows alcohol but prohibits pets.
The wooded sites offer fire pits and picnic tables, with recent burn areas creating open views across the surrounding landscape. Dead trees from past fires provide ample firewood for harvesting and support hammock setup. Verizon users report weak but functional cell service for basic communication. A nearby rentable cabin may provide occasional neighbors, and hunters use the surrounding area during appropriate seasons. The small three-site layout keeps crowds minimal, while dispersed camping occurs in adjacent pasture land where curious cattle may wander through. Campers seeking sites outside Custer National Forest can explore additional options in the broader region.
