Gallatin National Forest's Chief Joseph Campground sits just outside Cooke City, operating on a short seasonal window from July 15 through September 30. Access has been inconsistent over the years; the entrance was reportedly plowed under in fall 2017, so confirming current road conditions before arrival is worth the effort. The campground provides full hookups for RVs up to 50 feet, drinking water, showers, and a river along one side of the property. Reservations are available and pets are allowed. Call ahead before making the drive.
Description
This campground does not use a reservation system, it is managed on a first-come, first-served basis. Be aware the campground may fill up on weekends & holidays during the summer months and you should arrive in the early afternoon to ensure there is a space available for the night.
