Chief Joseph Campground is located near Cooke City-Silver Gate in the Gallatin National Forest. The area features forested terrain with elevations that can affect temperatures, which range from lows in the 30s Fahrenheit in spring and fall to highs in the 70s during summer. Nearby attractions include the scenic Beartooth Highway and Yellowstone National Park, offering opportunities for exploration and wildlife viewing.

This campground does not use a reservation system, it is managed on a first-come, first-served basis. Be aware the campground may fill up on weekends & holidays during the summer months and you should arrive in the early afternoon to ensure there is a space available for the night.

This seems to be a very nice campground, but I don't know for sure, because it has been closed every single time I've tried to stay there, or even driven past.

I think it's nice???

We had to get away from our reservations at big moose because of terrible conditions. We called at 6:00 at night and they brought us in. Showers were clean. Nice river on the side. Staff was great
