Tucked behind a commercial strip along I-270 in Granite City, this KOA sits in an industrial corridor that surprises some first-time visitors. The approach from the eastbound ramp requires crossing three lanes of traffic to make a left turn at the first light, and the entrance itself is tight enough that drivers of larger rigs should swing wide. Once inside, the setting feels more removed from the surrounding area than the address suggests, with some grass, shade trees, and concrete pads that reviewers consistently describe as level.
Noise is the defining variable here. Freight trains pass within two blocks several times nightly, and a nearby racetrack sends engine noise through the campground on Friday evenings during racing season. Some campers say the train noise fades from awareness after the first night. The campground sits near campgrounds near Granite City, though the density of full-hookup options in this part of Illinois is limited, which is part of why this KOA draws repeat visitors despite its surroundings. As Jennifer B. puts it: "Not fancy, not quiet, but clean and safe."
Cleanliness comes up repeatedly across reviews. Bathrooms and showers draw consistent positive mentions, and Peter H. noted "clean bathrooms and pool looked like it was taken care of." Tent sites include charcoal grills, a table and benches, and a metal rain cover. A pool, jumping pillow, and playground give families with kids reasons to spend time on-site between day trips. The campground is open from late March through November 1, with full hookups available for rigs up to 75 feet, plus WiFi, a dump station, and laundry facilities.
This location works best as a base for visiting St. Louis attractions, including Forest Park, the Gateway Arch, and Busch Stadium, all accessible within a short drive. Nearby overnight options include MGM Campground and MGM Lakeside Campground Inc to the east, and travelers continuing on the interstate may also consider Flying J Travel Center — Pontoon Beach as an alternative stop. Reservations are available and pets are allowed, though the dog run area has received mixed feedback regarding upkeep. If a one- or two-night urban base with full hookups is what you need, this campground delivers on the basics.
