Big Falls Campground and Horse Camp

With 32 sites offering electric and water hookups, Big Falls Campground provides municipal camping along the Bigfork River with rates from $25-35 per night. Reservations are available, and the facility accommodates both drive-in and boat-in access. RVs over 25 feet work better in front row sites, while shorter rigs fit well in the back areas among the Norway pines.

The campground sits directly beside fast-flowing river rapids, where campers can access large rock slabs popular with visitors. Sethen E. found the back sites "way better" for spacing, noting "Beautiful overlooks of the river" from the wooded areas. A separate equestrian section across the road provides additional sites for horse camping. The facility includes a recently updated bathhouse with individual showers, plus a community shelter and dump station.

Campers report consistent cleanliness and well-maintained grounds, though sand flies can be problematic during summer heat. The campground offers donated cedar firewood and maintains vault toilets on the horse camp side. WiFi is available throughout the facility. Walking distance to downtown Bigfork provides easy access to supplies and restaurants.

For campers wanting more remote options, Pine Island State Forest Sturgeon River Landing Campsites offers primitive camping four miles west.

Very Nice Campground

The campground itself was very nice.  We stayed in site #12 which was a very large corner lot, but everyone in the campground had to exit around the loop going by the site. Bathrooms and shower house was very nice and updated recently.  It was 80⁰plus when we were there and the sand flies were horrible.  Someone did spray for bugs one night and that did help a lot. We had a 10 and 8 year old with us, no play ground or water access for the kids, due to the very fast flowing river.  They recently got 12 inches of rain, so river was really raging. I would come back in the Fall or if you don't mind just sitting around a lot.

Hidden gem

Wanted a place with hookups close to Voyageurs. This place was great. One of the most beautiful rivers and falls we’ve seen running right beside the campground. New bathhouse with individual showers. Well-maintained and level sites. Really quiet. Camp host was friendly and helpful. Stayed two nights. Bugs are crazy, but then again, where in Northern Minnesota are they not. Super affordable for the location. Just breathtaking.

Well taken care of place

We stayed on the equestrian side which is just across the road from the main campground. Many sites to choose from. Not a ton of privacy but there’s breathing room between the sites. The campground is maintained very well. There was a clean vault toilet on our side and two full restrooms on the main side with showers.

Beautiful River

I love falling asleep to the sound of moving water! The views at this campsite are beautiful. My husband and I read by the river side. The mosquitos weren’t horrible, but they were trying their best to get in our camper. The shower house is well managed. The camp ground was very quite and peaceful.

Excellent campground

Well kept campground, new showers, bathrooms. A laundry room, alas, is not finished but there is laundry in town. Recommend sites 20-32, if you want a little more space. Read the reserve dates carefully on the signs if you drive through to select a site; the site you want might actually be available. We were surprised that the campground was only half full. Easy walking distance into town for supplies. The campground is right on the Big Fork River, very picturesque with large rock slabs and popular with kids. A great stay.

Listen to the Rapids

We called ahead and were set aside site #17 because we wanted to be close to the river. However when we arrived that site was taken by a large 5th wheel. We were greeted by the friendly host on arrival and he said that he had overlooked our reservation but he had plenty of room for us still- the entire backside of the campgrounds were open so we took site #11- which was way better as #17 was close to other campsites and we ended up back in a spaced out area among the tall shaded Norway Pines. Someone used a chainsaw to cut firewood at 9:30 at night which was not appreciated, but they were done quickly. Otherwise things were quiet.

Very clean well tended area. Family friendly. Dog friendly on a leash. Porta-potties available while main bathrooms were closed due to COVID. Good power. Electric only sites. Self contained. Longer rigs (25 feet plus) may fit better near the front row and shorter ones (we have a 22 foot trailer) would do better in the back. A few paved sites. Mostly gravel or solid ground otherwise. Donated firewood available (hot and fast burning cedar). Beautiful overlooks of the river. Tourists made stops at the pavilion through the day, so being in the back row was nice and quiet.

Overall a pleasant and calming stay.

Camp among huge pines

Camp among huge pines next to beautiful rapids, and be lulled into relaxation by the sounds of the Bigfork River. Clean bathrooms and showers, handicap accessible areas, and the community is working hard to make even more areas accessible. Friendly community, with a charming main street, with stores stocking almost anything you might have forgotten, gas station, grocery store, hardware store and gift shop, liquor store, motel, log furniture and home builder, fabrication, automotive and heavy equipment repair shops, and more. The campground is one of the most beautiful places in Minnesota and a great overnight stop on your way to Canada! Dedicated horse camp, and easy access to horse and ATV trails, make this a great place to purse many avenues of fun!!
