Rhody Trail Pull Off

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Trail access and open ground draw visitors to this drive-in pull off near Grand Marais, but there is a critical detail to know before arriving: according to one camper who cross-referenced multiple maps including the DNR website, this location is not on state land and is not a designated campsite. The DNR confirmed this directly. The Rhody Trail itself is a winter-only through route. Nearby designated campgrounds such as Au Sable East Backcountry Campsites — Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore provide legal alternatives worth considering instead.

Maps are incorrect

We found this location a much to my shock it was very large. BUT on day two we had a not in our tent from the DNR. This spot is not correct. We cross referenced this with three maps in the beginning before we went and after we arrived just to double check. One being the DNR website map. They are all incorrect. Do not go here, it is NIT a campsite. After speaking to the amazingly sweet DNR officer, and exchanging pics of maps she advised us our best bet in the future is to use the county gis and onX maps to be sure we are in the correct spots in the future. Also if you look at this and think we must be really close if this isn’t it, wrong. State land is quite a ways away. Oh and if you are on and ate etc… and are thinking it is a through trail it is not, (only in the winter) and nacho taco food truck was not open like it said it was so it’s a gamble. For identification purposes I am adding pics.
