Beautiful and quiet

Gorgeous area right on Jewell lake. Walking distance from Barton City. Sites have nice privacy between them. Utilized the grill on the fire ring alot Privy was well kept. The lake had a beach area to swim. Didn't actually intend on staying here but it was a happy accident and salvaged our memorial…

The dog beach is so much better than expected

The campsites themselves are sadly devoid of much shade, and only a few even have a water view.  But the dog beach, a bit of a walk down the trail towards the lighthouse, surely exceeded our expectations.  Most places designate barely usable waterfront areas to dog beach. At first glance, the dog…

  • Our dogs don't even normally like to swim, but loved the dog beach, with it's warm shallow calm waters.

Quiet & small

We chose this campground due to location (family event nearby). The sites are spacious and clean. The campground had 4 other occupied sites (seasonal?). We never saw another person during our visit. The sites have electric only. Water is shared between 3-4 sites, so you better bring a hundred feet…

  • Our site seemed to be the only one with a sledding hill.
  • Very clean shower. Only one stall.

Great park with a lighthouse

East Tawas is a place I've visited most of my adult life. There's some walking trails here, the lighthouse is a close walk/bike from anywhere in the park. Getting to town is a few minute drive, or a very long bike ride on the road.

Like most Michigan State Parks, your site has electric (30/50)…

On the AuSable River

Lots of things to do in this area! The large campground is crowded in summer months and you have to buy tokens to take a shower, but the views and access to the River are spectacular.

Worth the drive for us!

We took a group of 6 adults and 3 kids to Bay City which was a pretty good drive for us. We had a lot of fun! Park was clean and located across from the lake. There was a splash pad area for the kids which they begged to go to every day! The only bad thing was we had to drive our kayaks across the…

Perfect Early Fall Camping

Camped here in early fall. The area around here is beautiful with lots of sights and trails. This park has a wide variety of individuals and many long term residents but the staff were pretty friendly and the lake is beautiful (especially in the early morning).

Bay City State Park Campground

This is a really nice campground with newer bathrooms. I saw two cabins. The campground is not right on the lake. You have to cross the road to get to the state park with a great beach and a small, two mile trail. The campsites are right next to each other but there were a lot of mature trees.…

Large shady sites

The restrooms and showers were very clean, smelled of bleach. The nature trail around the lagoon is a birder's dream. We saw white egrets blue heron, sand pipers and their babies. There is a long paved bike path we had a dear pass within 6 feet of us and enjoyed hiking out to the watch towers. …

Rude Staff

We have a great group of campers, totalling 12 sites. Park was beautiful. However, every night we had visits from the officers threatening to kick us out due to excessive noise. Extremely disrespectful. We had 6 baby monitors we could hear but small laughter amongst adults is not tolerated at this…

Awesome !

By far this is our favorite park this year. Surrounded by water on all sides, sunrise and sunsets are gorgeous. Plenary of beach for everyone including a dog beach!!! Bathrooms are well kept and clean. Kayak rentals are available as well.

Great stay

The sites are good size, very shaded. Bathrooms are clean. Lots of thing to do here as you are right across the street from the beach. The near by nature preserve is a great place to take a hike or bike ride. There are a couple restaurants right outside the park entrance.

Amazing weekend for the kids!

This is one of the best campgrounds for kids that I've ever visited!!!

The campground itself is beautifully laid out and maintained. It features roughly a 150 some odd sites ranging from tent sites to RV and cabins. Each site has a cement fire ring and electric hookup. There are communal water…

We enjoy the water and the lighthouse. Lots of room to ride your bike. We also like to hit up the public beach. Sites are meh.

Beautiful

The campsite was very clean and enjoyable! It had individual showers with locks. Many campsites to choose from and they were big so could accommodate many. The fire pit is very nice as well. Only downside is you need to pay for the campsite as well as a day pass for their beach, so it’s a little…
