Perfect camping spot!

We've stayed at Little Levels 3 times now. It is a walk-in site, meaning once the beach closes at dusk, the vehicles are gone and you're left only with other people who have backpacked in (if anyone). You have the whole beach to yourself until the public starts arriving again in the morning. A perfect sunrise spot! Oh yeah, and you might get a glimpse of the wild horses!

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities and facilities are available at Little Levels Campground?

Little Levels is a primitive backcountry site with minimal amenities. There are no developed facilities such as running water, electricity, or permanent restrooms. Campers must pack in all necessary supplies and pack out all trash. The site offers a pristine natural setting with direct beach access. Being a backcountry location, campers should prepare for self-sufficient camping with proper water supplies, portable sanitation solutions, and food storage.

Where is Little Levels Campground located and how do I get there?

Little Levels Backcountry Site is located on Assateague Island National Seashore. It's a walk-in backcountry site that requires hiking in after the beach closes at dusk. To access the site, you'll need to enter through the main Assateague Island entrance and proceed to the designated parking area. From there, you'll backpack to the campsite. The trail provides a remote beach camping experience, with the site situated away from day-use areas, offering solitude once the public beach closes for the evening.

What are the best times of year to visit Little Levels Campground?

The prime seasons for Little Levels are late spring through early fall when weather conditions are most favorable. Summer offers warm water for swimming and pleasant overnight temperatures, though it may coincide with more visitors to the public beach during daytime hours. Spring and fall provide more moderate temperatures and fewer daytime visitors. Winter camping is possible for experienced backcountry campers but requires preparation for potentially harsh coastal weather conditions.

Is Little Levels Campground suitable for tent camping?

Little Levels is ideal for tent camping. As a backcountry site, it's specifically designed for tent campers who can pack their gear in. The site accommodates standard camping tents, though campers should be prepared for potential wind exposure given the coastal location. Since it's a walk-in site requiring backpacking access, lightweight backpacking tents are particularly well-suited. There are no designated tent pads, so campers should be prepared to set up on natural terrain while following Leave No Trace principles.
