Situated near treeline on the slopes of Mt. Avery within Bigelow Preserve, this established campsite sits along the Appalachian Trail in western Maine. Wind exposure is a real factor here; campers should stake and tie down tents securely. Several tent platforms provide solid footing. Water availability is limited to a small spring near the campsite, and a second source sits directly on the AT toward Avery, though flow can be low depending on conditions. Pets are not permitted. The Safford Notch Campsite — Bigelow Ecological Reserve lies roughly 1.8 miles east along the trail, making this site a natural stop for those completing a loop through the Bigelows.
