Lake D'Arbonne State Park — New Lake D'arbonne State Park

Beautiful state park with something for everyone

This lakeside state park has RV and tent camping, cabins, lodges and YURTS available. There are also day use pavilions available for family reunions, employee barbecues or birthday celebrations. You can also rent a meeting room in the visitors center.

There are lots of recreational opportunities which include hiking, biking, fishing, canoe and kayak rentals, tennis courts and an 18-hole disc golf course. They also have a large hiking trail system. Closed right now but available Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend they also have a really large swimming pool. A tornado hit the park in March 2021 and there’s still some trees down and a brief section of the trail I walked on today that wasn’t accessible but it is an easy detour amazing how much they have restored.

    Jimmie Davis State Park Campground

Prettiest La. State Park (so far)

Jimmie Davis State Park is wonderful, well maintained, and has a number of amenities.  Prettiest La. State Park I've stayed in so far. We had a great stay the days before Thanksgiving, and the weather was awesome. The fall leaf colors were spectacular. Caney Lake is clean and beautiful. I enjoyed walking and sitting along the lake in the mornings. Bathrooms were clean.

Stayed in campsite#52. Back-in site with asphalt parking, picnic table and fire ring. 15A/30A/50A, and water. No deck, sewer, Wi-Fi, and cable TV hookups. It has a large area on door/awning side. Awning faced west but the trees provided ample shade from the evening sun shining underneath. The spot is well spaced from other sites. The site is located near the lake. I wish the site had a paved patio or deck like site 51 and 54 on either side. Nearest neighbor was at least 30-40 ft. Away. Roads in the park were asphalt/concrete/gravel.

Both AT&T and Verizon had low signal(2 bars each). AT&T Speedtest= 16.8 Mbps down, 1.4 Mbps up. We camped in a Travel Trailer. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Jimmie Davis State Park in a Travel Trailer.

    Chemin-A-Haut State Park

Amazing state park, sadly underfunded. Still worth a trip.

Pretty state park, swimming pool during summer, gorgeous trails on an enchanting bayou, wooded back in slots with a camp host, not much to do in Bastrop but this park is a great attraction. No sewage but there is a dump station. There is also tent camping, cabins, and equestrian camping and trails but there have been budget cuts that prevent horse trail maintenance and road repairs, so you don’t know what you’ll get sometimes. The park has playgrounds and pavilions.

We don’t have one complaint about our stay. The camp ground is very clean and in good shape. The pads are all asphalted so pretty level. Trash bins are at every other site and the bathroom is not a far walk. The temps are really hot but the bugs aren’t too bad. My family will be back!!

Lake D'Arbonne State Park — New Lake D'arbonne State Park

    Resort like State Park

Lots of amenities. Tennis courses, disc golf course, hiking/biking trails, swimming pool, cabins, lodges, several playgrounds, picnic areas, pavilions & WiFi. Very reasonable sites for $23/night unless you’re in the lakeside premium sites which are more. Laundry room next to the bath house and playground. I will definitely be back.

Guide to Fairbanks

Cabin rentals near Fairbanks, Louisiana provide comfortable shelter in a region known for its diverse bayou ecosystems. With average summer temperatures reaching the low 90s and winter lows in the mid-30s, cabin accommodations offer climate-controlled options year-round. The region features numerous waterways including lakes, creeks, and bayous with multiple fishing opportunities within a 30-mile radius.

What to do

Ancient cypress exploration: Chemin-A-Haut State Park offers unique experiences with 1000-year-old cypress trees. "Best feature in the park is the Chemin-A-Haut Creek were 1000 year old Cypress trees are scattered throughout. Rent a kayak or canoe to paddle to them," notes Nicki M. However, water levels affect accessibility as Taylor C. mentions: "Went to go to kayak out to Castle Tree and found out the water was too high to really see the base of it and it's a two hr paddle upstream on the way there."

Water recreation options: Multiple lakes near vacation cabins around Fairbanks provide water activities. "Great park. Tennis courts, swimming pool (closed for winter), horse shoe pit, laundry mat, disc golf, and awesome clean bathrooms. Very nice sites and BEAUTIFUL cabins. Great piers on a very nice lake with big, beautiful cypress trees," shares Steve S. about Lake D'Arbonne State Park.

Hiking opportunities: Several trail systems accommodate various skill levels. At Moro Bay State Park, only "two short hiking trails" exist according to Bob M., while Jimmie Davis State Park Campground offers more extensive options with seasonal bonuses. During fall, leaf colors provide stunning views across the hiking paths.

What campers like

Immaculate facilities: Cabin rentals maintain high cleanliness standards. At Moro Bay State Park Campground, "My parents rented a cabin and it was immaculate," reports Melissa. The park also offers numerous amenities: "This park has it all! Campsites are level with all the amenities. Playground and recreation field are fantastic. You can rent bikes, kayaks, pedal boats and small fishing boats."

Wildlife viewing: Cabins provide shelter while allowing nature observation. "Raccoons are very curious and obviously human fed because they will walk right up to you," says Nicki M. about Chemin-A-Haut State Park. The surrounding wildlife areas offer additional viewing opportunities, with Black Bayou National Wildlife Refuge just "15 mins from Bayou Boeuf RV Park if you want somewhere to hike and walk around," according to Kristi D.

Peaceful atmosphere: Most cabin areas maintain quiet environments. "Quiet and clean" is how Sarah B. describes Chemin-A-Haut State Park. This sentiment is echoed across multiple locations, with Gil C. noting that Lake D'Arbonne State Park was "really cosy (and not crowded during week days)."

What you should know

Connectivity considerations: Cabin rentals offer varying internet access. At Chemin-A-Haut State Park, "Cellular service isn't great but they do have Wi-Fi," reports Heath H. This pattern repeats at other parks, with Katina T. noting Jimmie Davis has "wifi, just not a good signal."

Water level variability: Bayou water levels fluctuate seasonally affecting activities. "Water has been high for a few months so its ugly and not so useable. There's supposed to be a route by canoe to old growth trees but water is too high," explains Pam G. about Chemin-A-Haut. Always check current conditions before planning water activities.

Site selection importance: Not all cabin or camping sites offer equal advantages. At Jimmie Davis, "No sewage hookup, only a dump station. Not a big deal for a weekend visit, but may be an inconvenience if it were a longer stay," cautions Katina T. Gary G. adds site-specific warnings: "Just have to be careful what sight you book, because I almost never got my camper level in sight #21."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Most cabin locations include child-friendly areas. Jimmie Davis State Park features "a nice splash pad and beach for kids. Also a couple parks and many hammocks," according to Katina T. These amenities provide entertainment options beyond standard outdoor activities.

Educational opportunities: Ranger programs often complement cabin stays. At Lake D'Arbonne State Park, one ranger went above and beyond: "He also gave us some camping tips and helped us build a fire and gather firewood," shares Alayna J., demonstrating how staff assist families new to outdoor activities.

Budget-friendly considerations: Cabin rentals provide economical multi-day options. Sherrie N. notes that at Jimmie Davis, "they have nice spacious cabins for rent year round reasonably priced too." Similarly, Bayou Boeuf RV Park offers "good price for full hookup," according to Kristi D.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Concrete pads vary between parks near Fairbanks rental cabins. James T. reports his spot at Moro Bay "was perfectly level," while Lisa P. confirms "RV Sites are really nice- all of them are almost perfectly level." This contrasts with experiences at other parks where leveling challenges exist.

Support services: Bayou Boeuf RV Park receives praise for its management. "Super nice owners! Dwayne was very accommodating...good price for full hookup. Quiet and convenient campground," shares Kristi D. The attentive management creates a welcoming atmosphere for both cabin and RV guests.

Local supply options: Limited on-site stores necessitate planning. Bob M. notes Moro Bay State Park "Camp store on site has basics, like ice and firewood," but recommends "El Dorado about 23 miles away for groceries/supplies/liquids." Bring essentials when staying at cabin locations with minimal on-site purchasing options.
