This free state-run campground operates seasonally from early May through late September, providing basic amenities including drinking water, restrooms, and fire pits at individual sites. Located within Grayson Lake State Park, Bruin Creek serves primarily as a fishing and hunting base camp with direct access to Grayson Lake and nearby creek areas for boat exploration. The open layout offers little shade or privacy between sites, making it well-suited for campers who prioritize simplicity and lake access over seclusion. Hot showers are available in the bathhouse facilities. The Grayson Lake State Park Campground sits just over half a mile north for those seeking additional amenities.

Tranquil Off Season

This place is great. Came in off season in March, not expecting much. Many camps closed for season. It was beautiful, quiet, with running water and bbq pit at sites and hot showers in the bathroom. Perfect for a short stop over on x-country trip or offseason enclosed camping.

Bear Creek fishing

This is a state-run campground aimed at fishing and wildlife (hunting) but within the state park. There are bathrooms and water but not much else. We were fishing Grayson Lake mostly and staying here. Pros: FREE, super simple, golf nearby, nice lake/creek to explore by boat. Cons: open campground is not private and there’s no shade, maybe too simple for some, middle of nowhere (BYO supplies).
