Recreation

Perry lake has a reputation for being one of the best sailing lakes in the region; however, boaters of all types will enjoy the many opportunities offered here, whether it's sailing, power boating or canoeing. Perry Lake offers excellent fishing: White crappie, flathead catfish, walleye, white bass, channel catfish and sauger are in abundance throughout the lake. In addition to the vast lake, the area has approximately 27,000 acres of public land dedicated to wildlife management: turkey, deer, quail, pheasant, rabbit, squirrel, duck and geese are all found on these federal lands. For hikers, the 29-mile Perry Lake loop trail offers a range of terrain and difficulty from easy, gentle slopes in the south to rugged, varying elevation changes in the north. The Slough Creek trailhead for the Perry Lake Trail is located on-site. There is also a short loop trail through the Slough Creek Area called the Thunder Ridge Trail with the trailhead just outside the main campground gate. The Thunder Ridge Trail is approximately 2.5 miles and offers a diverse array of terrain and scenery in such a short trail.

Natural Features

Perry Lake Dam was completed in 1969 to help with flood control for the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. Today, the lake boasts 159 miles of shoreline and 12,000 surface acres of water, creating countless recreational activities for visitors, and earning it the nickname "paradise on the plains." The campground is surrounded by the lake on one side and a dense canopy of forest on the other, making it ideal for those wishing to enjoy the best of both environments.

Clean and spacious, but not spectacular

Stayed here on a Sunday night as just passing through. Campsite was generally clean except previous campers left food on the ground. In Montana we call that bear chum. Generally the area was clean and campsites were gravel and level. We stayed in one with electrical hookups, but there are dry camping options. We were glad we were not there over the weekend as our neighbors said it can be pretty loud even though the campsites are pretty dispersed. Bathrooms clean. I had wanted to drop the SUP in but too windy. I would have also had to walk through heavy brush to drop in, probably better locations around the lake. Overall a safe and clean place to overnight. If your into water activity like boating it’s probably a fun place. There are grassy areas for kids to play. Compared to Montana I would give it 3 stars, but for the middle of Kansas maybe 4 stars. Probably prettier places in the flint hills.

Been a GO TO for years

Slough creek at Lake Perry is an Army Corps of Engineers campsite that has spread out sites with lots of mature trees. Some sites very near the water. Great access to boat ramps as well. Gravel pads are generally fairly level.

Great campground

Great camping. Large sites. Wonderful lake access. Bathrooms need some work. Automatic motion sensor lights, that you actually have to step into the dark to activate.

Long time favorite

Grew up camping here every year for the 4th of July and one of my favorite places to visit when we visit Kansas, this place is amazing, little coves for swimming and kayaking, pontoons and party cove on larger areas, and clean nice campgrounds, with easy lake access all around.
