The 179 acres surrounding the lake is a wildlife refuge, predominately riparian timber with some native grass on the upland area. Primitive camping is allowed on the west side of the lake. Boating is restricted to fishing only. The lake population includes Channel Catfish (which are stocked during the summer months thanks to funding from the Urban Fishing Program), Black bass, Bluegill, Crappie, Flat-head catfish, and Walleye.

This is a self service park and it’s $20 for full hook ups although some of the spaces only had 50 amp service instead of 50 and 30. If you stay in the upper level, you might want to make sure you have a long sewer hose as it is quite a ways behind the trailer. Park does have bathrooms and a shower that were so so. There also is a disc golf available at the back of the lake. Nice walk around the lake. Sidenote there’s a nice nine hole golf course here that was fairly inexpensive and highly recommend los Primos Mexican restaurant for dinner.

ScoutCamped here over the Fourth of July weekend and was surprised that it was only about 3/4 of the way full. Quite a bit of day use Traffic with people kayaking and fishing, but remained peaceful and relaxing place.

Only 2, 30 foot sites and 30 amp electric plus water. Did I mention Free? Pavilion with picknic tables. We would stay here again. A couple of large cottonwood trees shade the site. We didn’t unhook and the site was level.
RangerThis park campground was a great stop for a night as we drove through Nebraska. Safe, clean, and nearly full by the time we parked early-evening on a Friday. Beatrice's website says "20 camping sites (3 pull-through)" and I would consider these to be geared toward RVs/vans, not so much toward tenting.

Beautiful campground! It had pit toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings. Solid free camping! Other campers were sort of rowdy, but it was a holiday weekend.
RangerAs you enter the park off of 10th street the bathroom and dump station are on the right. 3 spots have electric. 2 were taken when we arrived. Donations accepted ( how could you not) there were a couple of potable water spigots available. Previous reviews were spot on. Great little town. For the tent campers there are 5 spots with 20 amp power plugs also.

TravelerVery nice place, sites are not well marked. You have to climb the curb to get to the site, and its dirt, with some grass, and lots of nice trees. We had electric at our site and they did have water available in March, dump station is nearby as well. Bathrooms where closed.

Broadcasting this now because I was not aware when I showed up: there are only two designated tent sites in this entire campground. However, both these sites are clean, beautiful, and located near the trail that takes you to the (honestly very well-presented) adjacent historical park. Out of the two Nebraska state recreation areas I stayed at on my trip through the state, this one is definitely my favorite. I would give it 3.5 stars, but the coin-operated showers knock it down to a 3.

Nice spot to camp without spending a fortune. Their 50 amp plug ins were by the road but we didn’t get much if any traffic noise. We got to watch the parade from where we were parked. Will definitely be back!

If you’re ever near Stromsberg NE, this is THE town to stop in. Campground is in and near Buckley park. We stayed in the older campground, which had electric, shade trees, a bathroom ( not a pit toilet) with a sink and soap. But upon walking the area we found the newer, As of late last year, campground. That one even has a water hook up for every site. Both grounds have a host and are lit at night for security, but look up the town, rated A + in the US for crime rate. Walking the town it feels as if I walked back in time. Pay phones, bikes in their stands left unlocked, everyone says hi. I can’t say enough about this town. But bring cash if you want to purchase almost anything, as many of businesses do not accept CC or debit cards. It all works on the donation system, so give what you can.
TravelerNice spot to pull in for the night. Lots of spots on Sunday night in June. A few fisherman and kayakers out. Lots of shade and level spots for rvs. Can’t swim but dog had fun in lake. Water smelled fishy. Lots of trash laying around. Leave no trace people!
