Pomona State Park Campground sits along the shores of Pomona Lake, roughly one mile from Vassar, Kansas. The campground spreads across multiple loops with varying levels of development, from full-hookup sites to primitive areas where campers can park directly on the water. Rocky ground dominates many lakefront sites, requiring aftermarket stakes for secure tent setup.
The atmosphere varies significantly by location and season. Joshua M. notes that "all sites are clean and well taken care of," though campers report noise levels fluctuate based on proximity to boat ramps and marina activity. The Heart Stays loop offers shade and level ground but experiences heavy vehicle traffic throughout the day and night. Primitive lakefront spots provide more seclusion, particularly during off-season periods when fewer visitors venture out.
Full-hookup sites include 30-amp electric, water, and sewer connections, while primitive areas offer basic facilities. The campground features modern restrooms, showers, and a dump station, though some loops still rely on pit toilets. A marina operates nearby, and walking trails connect various camping areas to lake access points. Dan & Penny F. mentions "trails to take walks by the lake" wind through the property.
Staff maintains a relaxed approach to pet policies, allowing dogs off-leash within individual campsites. Reservations are available year-round, with rates ranging from $10-$100 depending on site type and amenities. Weekend periods see higher occupancy, particularly near the marina areas where late-night activity is common.
For the quietest experience, request interior sites away from boat launch areas and consider visiting during weekday periods when traffic decreases substantially.
