Walmart — Naperville Supercenter

Sitting in a large commercial corridor in Naperville, Illinois, this Walmart Supercenter parking lot draws overnight travelers looking for a no-frills stop amid suburban sprawl. The lot is level, well-paved, and well-lit at night. Traffic through the main entrance runs heavy, but the eastern perimeter, backed against a corn field, sees significantly less activity. Nearby big-box neighbors include Costco — Naperville and several chain restaurants within walking distance. Park on the east side of the building for the lowest traffic exposure.

Fairly Jam Packed Big Blue Box Retailer Outpost Near Corn Rows

Once here, we were immediately overwhelmed by all of the business and heavy in- and out-traffic of the place, but if substantial amounts of traffic doesn’t dissuade you from parking here, then you’ll be treated to a ton of amenities as you are situated within a strip mall version of heaven (or hell, depending upon how you look at it). You will be surrounded by other big box retailers like Lowe’s, Home Depot and Costco, as well as a number of gas stations, chain restaurants and other faceless, but heavily branded retailers. In the event that you decide to park at this oversized discount retailer parking haven, I would suggest parking on the eastern perimeter, where surprisingly there is next to no traffic or even parked vehicles, likely because this is the side of the store versus the storefront. Over here, you’ll be backed up against an empty corn field patch where peace and quiet will be your ultimate reward. You’ll find that the lot is very level, well-paved and seemingly brand new as well as affording you really great lighting at night creating a safe & secure vibe.

While scoring criteria may vary from one person to the next, here are the 5 most important criteria that informed my rating of this overnight location: convenience (EZ on- and off-access), safety & security, quality (of facilities), peace & quiet and amenities (either on-site or nearby). Here’s how I ranked this particular overnight spot:

Convenience: 3

Safety & Security: 5

Quality: 4

Peace & Quiet: 5

Amenities: 3

Overall, I scored this location a 4.

Happy Overnighting!
